I think Waqar is not a great blower,It's close without ignoring longevity
I think you are pushing it a bit too far now.I think Waqar is not a great blower,
Shami is comparable to Waqar, i guess.
Do you think Waqar is comparable to bumrah?I think you are pushing it a bit too far now.
Yes. Had an excellent peak himself and post peak was a Very Good pacer still.Do you think Waqar is comparable to bumrah?
Really? He wasn't that great against good teams even in his prime.Waqar was a bit of weak team basher. But otherwise, he did really well vs Windies. He was unlucky to not play SA at his prime. He faced them from 1997 onwards. His record would have been better.
Not really. Had one alright tour of Australia, but dominated a Great WI line-up. He did played relatively quite weaker teams much more often than say Bumrah though in his prime, for the better or worse.Really? He wasn't that great against good teams even in his prime.
But there is no equivalence of Waqar's performance and Bumrah's performance against top teams any time in their career, including Waqar's prime. Not really. Can't count 89 and his early 90 Aussie tour in his prime imo. He burst into scene, but not from his debut game. But there is no equivalence of Waqar's performance and Bumrah's performance against top teams any time in their career, including Waqar's prime.
Here is matches involving top 6 teams during prime - Waqar played 18 games

Lots of pacers outperformed Waqar in tests involing top 6 sides during his peak. Only against 1 team he averages under 25.
No one has outperformed Bumrah in tests involving top 6 sides. Against all teams, except one, he averages below 25.
That is including home and away both. Just for away, it's even more lopsided comaprison. And yes, I am talking about Waqar's prime and if you go out side of prime then Waqar played 40-50 tests with 1-fers against non-minnows. That's not even world class. I am striuggling to cite any world class bowler playing 40-50 tests with 1 5-fer.
There is no evidence to suggest that Waqar was in Bumrah's class any time in his career.
OK, we can remove 89 and early 90s Aussies tour, Then he has these 13 tests, Only against one team he averaged sub 25 among top 6 test teams during his prime. Can't count 89 and his early 90 Aussie tour in his prime imo. He burst into scene, but not from his debut game.
Probably should though. I have said this before and will again, 2019 is still some of the best pure bowling class I have ever watched. You always can't select whom you play. Waqar had a crazy good 5 year peak where despite bashing a weak NZ (though mind you, with Crowe, who was better than anyone from England). Absolutely dominated a still very strong WI line-up and had a very good tour of England. Played 2 home games vs Australia, though again, it's debatable whether it should count as his prime.OK, we can remove 89 and early 90s Aussies tour, Then he has these 13 tests, Only against one team he averaged sub 25 among top 6 test teams during his prime.
We already know that he wasn't even world class for the last 43 tests so longevity arguement is just meaningless. And his peak is not worth hyping.

No one hypes, Bumrah averaging 10 agasint SL/WI/BD. He is rated for turning it on and actually having a great record against top teams of his era, Waqar never had it even in his prime.
Interesting way to right Alec Stewart......Waqar would've had an ATG series in England in 1992-3, but ran into Graham Gooch
two amazing players of pace and bounce! but I had Gooch's match winning ton in mind at Headingley I thinkInteresting way to right Alec Stewart......
I am not saying that Waqar was not good during his prime. Waqar was good during his prime and yet many outperformed him against better teams.Probably should though. We can’t assume anything based on 13 games sample. Include NZ and then compare with his peers because NZ with Crowe is more or less at same level as Eng or India. They would do well vs some teams and not do well vs some.Really? He wasn't that great against good teams even in his prime.
