this was posted in 2020, Smith at peak averaging Bradman esque numbers against express pace, Kohli fell off after this and Smith too to an extent but I think this shows how good Smith was against express pace at peak.

22 wkts @ 20.27 with 2 5fers that series, as someone who was watching, he seemed like fire.

and yeah one ball hit his face but Archer got properly spanked the whole series otherwise by Smith, he iirc injured him in the first inning they faced, second time they met Smith made 211, next inning he made 82 (92), next inning Archer took a 6fer but Smith still made 80, final inning Smith got dismissed early but by Broad, Archer didn't get Smith once.

Sachin got out numerous times by lbw and clean bowled, to the inswinger of Pollock, McGrath,md Asif, Jimmy Anderson, Waqar...
Sachin averaged only 37 whenever he got out via clean bowled and lbw, Steve Smith is still averages 50+ despite his recent struggles and like sachin, joe root who struggles against inswing deliveries averages 38

Wagner wasn't express pace or really anything except just... Wagner. I honestly think most batsman would struggle with that sort of bowling at first because it's just so unusual and so difficult to play if you aren't prepared for it.
