All Rounders Poll - Discussion

And in those times, FC was pretty important as well, as important as tests. That's why I requested @Line and Length to do test+FC the next time he does a poll.
That was a fair request but as I had said in my OP, "I've lodged my votes for the top 3 all rounders in Test Cricket." Once we had started, we had to stick to that proviso. @sayon basak no need to apologise re the Procter vote. It wasn't, imo, as bad as the recent votes for Tendulkar (see my objections above).

Just a couple of questions for @Line and Length (I appreciate your time is also a factor)

(1) Is this really the last round with 13 voters so far?

(2) If this is the last round, if 3rd place is tied (like it is now) can we have a vote off instead of including all tied players? (So keeps it at top 40)

I'm torn because I think there's still some good allrounders out there, but if batsman that bowl a little bit like 0.23 WPM Tendulker make it then it's probably time to stop 😀

Having said that, if Tendulker is in the mix then so is Bob Simpson easily, as well as Greg Chappell and Doug Walters with a similar number of wkts to Tendulker in way less than half the games. That would be interesting in itself.
(1) I intend it to be so. Having the likes of Tendulkar nominated when there are other, more genuine ARs available seems to indicate it's time to stop.
(2)Yes. A vote off if needed.

Pretty much up there with Jason Gillespies's 201* vs Bangladesh 😉
I know (it's tongue in cheek), but Wally averages 44 vs Australia, his best opponents (the only ones completely of Test class) as well. Think overall their secondaries are quite comparable.

I would only vote for Wasim and Lindwall on merits of all-round game, but they're still tweeners and not really allrounders. The remainder of choices seem pretty laughable in terms of an "all-time" impact on the game.

With the Poll complete, it is time to look at the hard luck stories of players who missed out. Colin de Grandhomme is definitely unlucky, having missed out in the tie breaker by one point.
My hard luck story goes to Colin McCool. He was undoubtedly disadvantaged by only playing 14 Tests (yet Procter got in with 7 Tests). In those 14 Tests he averaged 35.31 with a century to his name. His bowling netted him 36 wickets (2.57 wpm) at an average of 26.61 with three 5 fers.
Also unlucky was Abdul Razzaq who garnered votes until his bowling average put voters off (including me).

I like allrounders to be big impact players that can win a game with bat or ball. So not saying they had to, but what stands out for me is that McMillan, Dexter and Oram are the only allrounder's never to take a 5fer, while Davidson and Procter the only one's never to score a hundred (Procter didn't even score a 50)

(Btw, I did vote for McMillan, Oram and Davidson)
