Strikes me as just not knowing how to bowl effectively in the format. The first 3 balls of that final over that went for 14 were all pace on, and two of them were length balls into the batsman's arc. Was just dumb bowling. His new ball spell was excellent though, pacy outswingers on a teasing length.

Otago showed a fair bit of tenacity yesterday. Nothing went right in the first innings, and ND put up a huge score. Otago sides of the last couple of years would have rolled over and got smacked by 100+ runs. This side kept on fighting. Had no right to get as close as they did in the end. Sometimes a fighting loss can speak more about how a team is placed than winning easily.

Katene's pulls against Hazeldine's short balls were ***y af, I can see why ND have backed him this hard

he is insanely block-bash though - the 'eat up 30 balls until your eye is in' strategy isn't going to fly at higher levels. Interested to see how he develops.

I swear players don't develop until I deem them cooked. Last week I said he must be a hell of a dude given ND keep picking him, then he peels off 90 then a ton

Amazing what a decent coach can do, would Noffke ever be in the running for Blackcaps coach?

Not sure why the Hinds opened with a very wayward spinner today. Green and Rowe have bowled superbly since and have got it swinging around corners.

I never imagined charging and leaping to convert a short ball to a back-of-a-length ball would be such an effective strategy

Heaphy averages 50.3 in List A with a strike rate of... 63.8. His role is cake. It's more Bruce who was struggling here imo.
Bruce has a track record of playing ludicrous knocks, he's allowed a few balls to get in.

You don't need cake with 5 overs left in a T20. Having said that, CD's batting lineup is pretty shallow. If they had another gun hitter down the order it would be clearer cut.

Not yet IMO. Retire him and bring Clarkson in just before the 19th over.
