South Africa team selection

Below will most probably be the wtc team. De Zorzi might find it tough to get his test place back.

Rickleton
Markram
Bavuma
Stubbs
Verreynne (wk)
Bedingham
Mulder
Jansen
Coetzee
Rabada
Maharaj

It's that who bats 3 debate. But agree that's the likely top 7.

The worry for Nortje is okay he may get the warm-up test but he can't even play the last 2/3 4-day games for the Warriors as off to the IPL.

Like it, but Pato will play. Zimbabwe are already in England for a one of test, if Ireland are not available may be a Zim/ Proteas test match should could be arranged as the much needed warm up game at Southampton or the Oval

If it was me;

I want another top order aggressor over TdZ. Bedingham?

Linde over Shamsi or Mulder

Baartman over Ngidi

I genuinely don’t know who Walter thinks his best XI is… any thoughts?
Yup, I've heard rumours some players think he is out of his depth as coach.

Therein lies the problem.

Wouldn't surprise me if Rickelton & Stubbs are in the reserves? Bowling probably rotates. Mulder at 7?

I see that. I have far less faith in the ODI team than the Test and T20 team. Any rumblings of Conrad taking over the other teams?

Bowling attack selects itself. Rabada, Nortje, Jansen, Mulder and Maharaj. Markram Miller Bavuma and Klaasen also surely in which makes it 9.

Final two batting slots between RVD, TDZ, Stubbs and Rickleton.

That's fair. 50-over team does feel like it needs the biggest work over.

Haven't heard anything but if we had to say who is it between I would guess; CSA has involved Malibongwe Maketa as SA U19/Academy/SA A coach, they got Imraan Khan from the Dolphins job & maybe Robin Peterson, Adi Birrell and Lance Klusener on top of Shukri.

Agreed. Will we need Shamsi at all?

Ngidi looks to have lost weight again during an injury recovery. But I just feel he has lost threat in his stock ball. Actually frustrated how his career has turned out.

Really don't like the squad lads. Lots of out of form players or guys who haven't played much cricket getting a look in.

Don't like the balance of the team , feel like we are an all rounder short yet again in a major tournament..

Markram has taken 9 wickets in the last 2 years @65 and he's gonna be our 6th bowler in all the games unless Jansen bats at no.7 and Mulder in the top 6 which is unlikely.
Could have fitted in someone else who could help with the 6th bowling that's an explosive batter like Corbin Bosch , like a Potgieter, a George Linde , even Brevis if we invested him and asked Titans to try his Leggies but unfortunately they didn't get opportunities and that's on Walter .

Shamsi doesn't have a CSA contract and he looked awful in the few games he made himself available for , can't bat , a liability in the field and so if he plays we have to take a genuine strike bowler out to accommodate him.

Van Der Dussen looks a shadow of the player he once was , this was the perfect opportunity to take a calculated risk on Bedingham ..

Ngidi has barely played any cricket along with Nortje but Nortje has genuine pace so I don't mind his selection that much , harsh on Maphaka and Baartman though.

Feel like we needed to think out of the box here but Walter has gone with a safe team against dangerous opponents.

Last 50-over WC was our chance with that batting line-up & QdK still in it.

They may surprise us (with the experience stepping up & Rickelton/Stubbs/Mulder/Jansen going to next level) but it definitely feels like we may have to suffer a little before we get better in the format.

So Rob Walter doesn’t live in South Africa? Don’t think it has a bearing on anything but still found that very interesting.
