*Official* Women's Ashes 2025

Jones seemed to completely forget how the strike worked there. Not just the last one, I also question the earlier decision to turn down a single which just meant she needed a single the next ball anyway
Nah in that situation needing quick runs without losing any wicket free hits are absolutely gold for the set batter to try and go over a boundary rider IMO.

Yeah her trying to monopolise the strike - until the very end - was fine. What was not fine was what she was trying to do when on strike, which was basically nothing aside from that one massive full bunger.

Lol that is actually a dud call on Sutherland there, but her old man is an awful person so fair enough.
Tbh I never have sympathy for the bowler in those situations, if you bowl that full then you're taking a risk with the umpire and the umpires should definitely err on the side of calling the no ball IMO.

Did Jones just somehow forget after she hit the ball that it was a free hit and McGrath was replacing Sutherland, not starting a new over?

As dreadful an effort as it was, I don't think Jones is good enough that she was ever going to steer them there once Capsey was out. Arguably once NSB was out this was inevitable.

Not that one…at 47.5 she also turned down a single off a legitimate ball, meaning she would have had to get a single off the remaining ball. Then there was another no ball off what would’ve been the last ball. Then off the ensuing free hit she forgot to run again.

As critical as we're being of Jones at least she stayed in and tried to get closer to the target. The top order failed. I'd love to know how often England's top seven scores 50s/100s when Knight and NSB fail.

For real though Aus are so very much there for the taking but there must be some bizarre psychological hold they have over sides still which makes them freeze when the opportunity presents itself because there's no ****ing way England should have ****ed that up that badly. It's happened to India a few times too so it must be mental.
This. It's clear that there's not a whole lot between these teams on ability now, it's just that one side expects to win and the other one hopes to.

It's one thing getting bowled out on a chase of 180, but to end up being miles down on run rate too is unacceptable. Turns out the dross served up by Filer at the start of the day was quite key, and they're badly missing Cross.

Much like Australia, England will soon be losing their best players. I have no idea what happens to the batting when Knight and NSB retire because there's precious little coming through.

I'm still making up my mind if this Ashes points system is fair?

If Aus win ODI series 3-0, but then England win the T20 series 2-1 and win the Test match, both teams draw the series with 8 points (so Australia retains the Ashes)

I would have thought winner of one of the white ball series and the Test match should win the Ashes instead of drawing with a team that only wins one of the white ball series?

It's weird that the test is 4 points rather than 5.

That is a lot of hypothetical. This is going to be a clean sweep.

England won both the T20's and ODI's last time but only drew the series. The Test used to be worth 6 points but they reduced it to 4. It's probably about right now, although makes the toss in the Test very important.
