Man it's been a good start to the tournament. Crowds are in, Comms are decent. Great to hear Kumar Sangakkara so excited about the potential he is seeing and the work Paarl Royals do to unearth untapped potential. Really like their Dewan Marais pick as well. He is the prototype middle order white-ball finisher & I must say I'm even more excited about his fielding from what I saw in the U19 CWC.
Crickets been good but could do with a real cliffhanger although Durban wasn't bad. Exciting debut performances from Parsons, Pretorius and Maphaka. How great was it to see Pretorius batting with Root yesterday, Root coming down the wicket and saying watch the slower ball to Pretorius and those little things. Kid probably didn't care as he was in the zone seeing the ball like a pumpkin but still
As Smith said. Condensed high quality and all teams look competitive and evenly balanced. Those Benson & Hedges days from the 80s and 90s for domestic cricket was amazing. Great for the next Gen to experience this in local cricket again.

why is it that the comp is all ipl teams? was it a lack of money on the part of SA allowing ipl to swoop in or did the ipl want a southern hemisphere summer league and just chose it to be this one?

SA tried to launch their own T20 franchise comp twice. Both failed and actually put CSA into massive debt. When Greame Smith got involved the idea of opening up the team slots to different bidders came about. According to him it just so happened to be 6 IPL franchises and they claim to have gone through an auditing firm etc etc but I don’t think they wanted to be burnt a 3rd time so went with the safest option.

SA20,ilt20, big Bash & super smash.
SA20 has the top Proteas for the duration and the internationals who joined are 90% of the time real quality.
Big Bash would be higher if the Aussie internationals played.
