It's happened in at least one and maybe two BBL games this summer where he's decided to openly just pick a fight with one of the batsmen out of sheer frustration when he's having a **** game - first Finn Allen on NYE when he was putting in a Marcus Harris tier performance, then tried having a massive go at Tim David in a game last week... right after he'd been hit for 25 off an over. Funny but also quite odd.

Agree on the principle, but in practice if Eng, Aus & SA all agreed to, they'd be handing Afghanistan one of the semi spots assuming forfeiting would give AFG 2 points for each forfeit & hence hurting their own semis chances. Very different to NZ forfeiting against Kenya in the 2003 WC because I think they were the only team to do so.

Surely, if everyone boycotted the Afghanistan team they would win the trophy not just reach the SF, as if there was a "unified and collective approach" they would win the SF on the same basis and thereafter likewise the Final.

But isn't it all a bit of a nonsense? Surely the only point of any boycott would be to put pressure on those responsible for whatever misdemeanour needed to be highlighted / protested against. In this case isn't the problem that the Taliban have banned women from having a team forcing that team's players into exile. I can't see the Taliban losing any sleep over any failure or indeed celebrating any the success of the Afghani Men's team, which plays under the previous national flag. Win or Lose or Draw, I suspect cricket is not on the Taliban's watch list.

yeah fair. the lack of 50 over cricket played by Root et al has certainly played a big part in englands fall as an ODI side.

Evidently CA didn't take the last World Cup seriously either.

But seriously how long a career can you build off one innings and perceived utility that isn't evident in the scorebook? At least when they picked him for the 2019 World Cup he'd scored a few fifties in recent history.

Neither him nor Hardie should be there but with Marsh presumably not bowling (and even if he was, not bowling well) we need someone to be fifth bowler and evidently they're banking on pace. I was really hoping we'd gotten rid of him after the World Cup.
