I don't think its obvious. Waqar averaged about 40.5 in Australia, 76.5 in India, 27.5 in England, 27.2 in New Zealand, and 28.3 in South Africa. Holding averaged below 24.3 in every nation except New Zealand, where he averaged 47.9 (the tour with the ****ty umpiring). Basically, I think it's pretty close lol. I think it also depends on if you compare them based on peak vs entire career.
Yeah, I gave more weightage to the peaks I guess. So Holding overall.

Pre-injury Waqar was a beast never seen before or since.. My favorite Pakistani bowler and better than Holding IMO.

It's an interesting (for me, anyway) contrast that Waqar was voted in ahead of Holding into the All Time 5th XI, but Holding is comfortably beating Waqar head-to-head here.

He also went to NZ in 1987 (played his final test at Wgtn), where the Windies bowled 177 overs with the same ball. Which I think now resides in the NZ cricket museum. Whatever was left of it.

Holding for me, anyway. That run-up and action was something else.

Holding better but guess Waqar can be said to add more variety with two other great pacers already in the attack

Why though?? I sometimes feels Holding gets underrated here.
BTW I'm pretty sure Holding is generally rated in the top 15 pacers list. Don't think even you rate him significantly higher.

And he's literally winning the poll by quite a margin. That's no underrating.

I think there's nothing much separating him and Garner. Garner had the better overall numbers, but he has ATG/Great series in all of India, England and Australia. In many ways, he is the Viv of bowling, not the most consistent but has high octane series in a variety of conditions.

That's a really good description imo.

Also has a great record against NZ. I'm changing my vote (actually they are my top 14 and 15 bowler; so, won't mind going either way.

Marshall is the more apt comparision for Viv.
