Interesting those who prefer BGT 2021 to 2001.

As far as quality of series go, to me it's no contest that 2001 was better even though 2021 was a more historic triumph.

I agree. 5 tests of consistent high quality edge of the seat cricket with an ATG team and worldclass opposition.

Yeah this was my thinking as well. All the drama with injuries, kohli abandonment, rahane captaincy and net bowler stuff adds to the lore too.

Yeah but 2001 Ind vs Aus had a much more profound effect on Indian cricket with greater performances.

Yeah, 2021 was definitely the more dramatic story, the quality of cricket in 2005 was maybe marginally better. McGrath was missing though and instead of the injuries to India which made the series more and more intriguing as they piled up, McGrath going down did feel like it was a bit of a shame.

The trouble with the 36/37 Ashes is that the outcomes of 4 of the 5 Tests were significantly affected by the weather (I remember seeing an interview with Bradman where he noted that 3-2 to Australia was a fair result, because the 4th Test (which they won) was the only exception).

I went for the 2005 Ashes - says it all that even my cricket hating then wife got caught up in the excitement of it all

India v West Indies in 74/75 worth a shout too - first two Tests to the visitors and then India winning the next two - shame the decider wasn't closer though

Very good series between these 2 sides with multiple players like Ashwin, Jadeja, Smith , Lyon , Pujara and Warner at their peak .

That was a Great series (and one of the first I remember every match vividly/watched every match); but don't think it really belongs among the Greatest.

The McGrath injury becomes part of the mythology - the timing right before the toss, the unusual manner of the injury and then Punter choosing to bowl because he thought the tornado earlier in the week would've roughed up the wicket, only for his McGrath-less attack to concede 400 in a day.

As an England fan, two favourite series of mine are the 2-1 victories vs SA in 1998 and 2004/5. Lots of momentum swings in both, and decided by two of the great but often forgotten modern innings by England players - Butcher's 116 at Headingley in a total of 230 (next HS 24*) and Tres smashing 180 in the second innings at the Wanderers.
