Pollock and Barry were like the South African Sobers and VivPollock was only considered inferior to Sobers and some even considered him an equal of Sobers, and looking at his tragically short but amazing and widespread record, I don't think it's crazy to think he's one of the best ever.
Definitely Pollock is an ATG, Barrington a no for me and arguable at best.Pollock was only considered inferior to Sobers and some even considered him an equal of Sobers, and looking at his tragically short but amazing and widespread record, I don't think it's crazy to think he's one of the best ever.
Not sure about that as I think those two are literally some of the best ever, But I don't mind Pollock in the high ATG convo tbh, very good record.Pollock and Barry were like the South African Sobers and Viv
In the 1970's, all the way through WSC, Barry was very much in that conversation. That's after being unquestionably the best batsman in the world until Viv removed the title from him.Not sure about that as I think those two are literally some of the best ever, But I don't mind Pollock in the high ATG convo tbh, very good record.
What about Van Der Bijl? Is he an ATG? Don't dodge this.In the 1970's, all the way through WSC, Barry was very much in that conversation. That's after being unquestionably the best batsman in the world until Viv removed the title from him.
You may not agree, but contemporaneously, and I'm sure @peterhrt would verify, it wasn't a question. Barry was very much in that category.

Nah, Pollock has no proven record on unfamiliar conditions, where as Barrington scored everywhere, more in unfamiliar conditions. He may be dour and boring, but he would be my wall to bat in middle order over any similar batsman.Pollock is better than Barrington. He had enough of a career to justify his rep as SA's greatest bat.
Agreed. They are almost equal as bowlersPollock is kinda like Trueman
I'm gonna delete my accountAgreed. They are almost equal as bowlers
Doesn't remotely mean he was better. You look for the more challenging conditions, not variety for the sake of it.Barrington. Plyed in moee varied conditions.
So let's add another one, with the addition of Smith, undeniably one of the elite 7 batsmen of the post war era.And the award for posting the same sentence the most times without it being classified as spam goes to..
India is challenging for non SC batsmen, so your point is moot here.Doesn't remotely mean he was better. You look for the more challenging conditions, not variety for the sake of it.
