My main memory of Gomes was that he was the player who batted and batted on the rare occasions we managed to do some damage to the bigger reputations in the Windies line-up. But I didn't realise his record was even better in Australia than in England, which makes it curious to see his erratic record in other countries, including his own. But those tours to Oz, wow - especially the first one
