Jay Shah, England, India, and Australia in talks to kill test cricket

The only reason they're proposing this is so they can play each other more often and not worry about giving exposure to other countries. It would be the death of the test game in any country that ends up in the bottom division, and the top would follow not long after.

Let alone kill of any remaining hope of continuing test cricket in nations that are not the above 3, they will almost certainly kill the golden goose in those three countries. It is bad enough that a ticket for a bog standard seat for a day's play costs above £100 for a day at a London test, but if you have those sides travelling more regularly than they are already it will really be meh for me.

Whatever it takes!!!
The only way this works is if Tier 2 Test Cricket is given space on the schedule (ie - not clashing with Tier 1 Tests or Franchise T20s) and is made accessible to global fans (streaming platforms/YouTube). If it's kept hidden in the shadows then it won't grow.
I had a theory a while ago -

Test Cricket Div 1 - Ind, Aus, Eng, RSA, Pak, NZ

Test Cricket Div 2 - SL, Ban, Afg, Zim. Ire, WI

Every 4 year cycle - Teams play every other team in their division in min. 3 test series both home and away, and 1 2-test series against each team in the other divsiion, 3 home and 3 away.

At the end of the cycle, top 3 from Div 1 and top team from Div 2 qualify for the WTC - 2 semis and a finals to be held in a 2 week period.

Guarantees 42 tests for each team in every 4 year cycle and the points system and everything becomes far more fair. Obviously promote the top 2 and relegate the bottom 2 or at least the top and bottom 1.

1. It wouldn't work as the big 3 wouldn't let themselves be relegated.
2. Pakistan shouldn't be in the top division ahead of SL and Bangladesh

One thing is that personally annoys me is that I absolutely do not want to see more of England and India. It gets boring. The home Ashes being every four years has worked fine for a century.

I can imagine that the board presidents, Shah, and the broadcasters discussing this are also chortling about how dumb FIFA is for not scheduling the football world cup more often.

A poor comparison if ever there was one. The biggest clubs in football earn far more money than a national association ever would.

Oh FIFA would love to schedule it every two years. The members revolted over the idea. The advantage of not having 3 controlling the sport.
