Just like Smith is finding it hard to get past 10,000 runs, Travis Head is also finding it hard to get past Dean Jones on the Aussie run scorer list. He's been sitting less than 50 runs away for 2 tests now and he still didn't get there.

As most say how great Travis Head currently is, here's a reminder how good Dean Jones was.

Jones: 52 tests, 3631 runs @ 46.55, 11 hundreds
Head: 54 tests, 3621 runs @ 43.10, 9 hundreds

That was a fun series. Many of the reasons India lost started before the toss - the selections did not make any sense to me. I’m not going to belabor the point about Kohli and Rohit - that’s two in your top order that should not be there - but realistically, india just don’t stop guys like that often.

But even with two passengers, india could have done much better and won another Test - at the very least - if the rest of the selection was better. They picked a bunch of blokes who could bowl and barely bowled any of them. They needed to go in with four bowlers, plus one all rounder. That’s it. And then pick the best five batsmen in the country and a keeper. And it was their batting that let them down repeatedly - inning after inning - and game after game - but instead of shoring that up, they kept on going the other way.

As much as I’ve enjoyed their careers and contributions, I think this should be end of the road for Rohit, Kohli, and Jadeja. It’s time to move on, the spinners for the squad in England should be Kuldeep, Axar and Sundar. Batting - I don’t know - but Sarfaraz should get the whole series in England to prove himself one way or another. Jurel should get in there too. KL Rahul did OK early and he looks great when he gets going but his average is 33 after 58 matches. That’s enough of a sample size and he has shown us that’s who he is. Hopefully there’s time to send a bunch of A team guys from those who have done well in Ranji to see who looks good in English conditions and pick some batting and support bowling based on that. Shami would have been very helpful here but he is also recovering from a long injury and he has never been great in England.
The fall off in Jadeja is quite incredible

I think with Head we just have to accept what he is and enjoy the ride. He's never going to be a statistical monster, but he wins big games and big series - something that can't be said for quite a few cricketers with better numbers than he has. Rarely seen a worse starter for a batsman of his level, but if you let him get to 20 on a spicy deck then watch out.

Bro I think that's what they did. They just thought that Jadeja and Sundar were better batsmen than the reserves, regardless of their bowling

Nah Jurel is better batsman than both . They picked 2 all rounders to lengthen the batting order and decrease workload of Bumrah and didn’t bowl any of the spinners due to pitch .

Trav tends to make his runs in live rubbers though

That's shameful by CA if true...
I called it out live as being bad form. I mean the guy the trophy is named after is at the ground but they don't have him present

Why couldn't they roll Gavaskar out there as well with Border to present the trophies?

honestbharani

Whatever it takes!!!
The only reason I can think of, is they had planned to have Border hand over the trophy if Australia are lifting it and Gavaskar hand over the trophy if India were lifting it. Which makes no real sense either but I can see an idiotic reasoning of that sort. Otherwise, no idea why you wont have the two people the trophy is named after, hand it over.

This is what CA have said their plan was and apparently Gavaskar was aware beforehand. A bit strange but yeah.
