Does Jadeja make your ATG Indian XI?

Dude stay on topic lol
Wut? I just asked a question.

I'm okay with not picking Jadeja outside SC.
But if you are gonna pick an XI for IND, you have to assume that they're gonna play half of their match in IND. So, there's no reason to pick Zaheer (except if you want the left arm pace variety; but your team has no SLA either).

Other than that, I'm ok with the team you posted. Personally wouldn't go for Pant.

I have been thinking about the below team recently giving due respect to some of the earlier stalwarts who played at a tougher time for Indian cricket but stood on their own in many challenging situations away from home. Strongly believe their records would have been better in modern times. Have also slightly changed my mind on some of the recent players.

Gavaskar
Mankad
Dravid
Sachin
Hazare
Umrigar
Pant
Kapil
Shami
Bumrah
Gupte

So Jadeja misses out.

Even though I am now against five man bowling attacks, I think in India's case it's justífied.

Merchant would have almost certainly made my team but for the sample size. Unfortunately his career was cruelly short, else would have been the first ATG batsman for India. I prefer to rate them on what they did in tests though.

This thread has clearly been made by you to suggest that Jadeja should not be in Indian ATG XI. You are obviously going to reply and refute any suggestions by anyone to include him by continuous debating till the other guy gets tired of you.

But know this, the answer is Jadeja. A timely thread after a few bad tests won't change that.

The answer is Jadeja ... on home turf (2023r @ 37.46; 238w @ 20.64)

Away from home he is far less impressive (1362r @ 31.95; 85w @ 33.75) and remove his other SC stats and he slips even further (1257r @ 30.65; 72w @ 34.65).

An ATG Indian XI can't be selected to play exclusively on Indian soil.

Nah the thread is to get to the heart of AR vs specialist utility in an ATG XI similar to my Miller thread. Created in similar vein. I'm not hiding my reservations I put them all in the OP.

Jadeja is a fine choice in the XI but I want to explore the logic. He isn't a definite choice IMO.
