Would you play Keith Miller in your Australia ATG XI?

The last 3 pages comparing "kept a few tests Walcott" to Gilchrist as keeper-bat has been done to death over thousands of posts regarding Sangakarra. Boring stuff!

Why are some people always trying so hard to change people's mind to their selections?

ftr, I never said anything regarding his keeping. I mentioned he was not in Gilchrist’s league as a keeper-batsman, which is quite obvious.

He’s basically Sanga 50 years previously.
You could argue Walcott was more suited to batting in the lower middle order than Sanga though which I guess makes it slightly different, but yeah.

I agree with you that it would be a close contest, and that Chappell and Border at 5 and 6 are musts.

Think we're underselling one player in particular a tad.

I, and you obviously disagree, believe that peak Viv was as good as any batsman who ever lived and a Vivian Richards selected from Anywhere from '76 to '80 is a trump card for the Windies.
Any advantage Viv brings at all is easily canceled by Peak Smith. Peak Smith (2014-2019) was better than Peak Viv imho. The guy was a machine.

There is not much to separate the top 7, outside of Bradman. The pace bowling attack is pretty similar and then you have O’Reilly/ Warne, who again are the difference makers easily. West Indies match Australia but have no major advantage in any department at all which Australia does.

Smith was excellent, top 6 batsman of all.time in my estimation. He was scoring his runs to start on pancakes, then against whom? Viv's peak was against Lillee, Imran, peak Botham, Willis etc. A different beast Viv was.

But we can agree to disagree.

Peak Viv beats peak Smith, especially if we are talking top attacks.

But the top 7 are pretty equal if Miller is there.for Australia.

WI like I say have the edge in pace. Aus in spin is not as big an advantage as being made out.

Now that India have Bumrah you might be right. An attack led by Kapil has a glaring weakness, especially in NZ. Hadlee and Bond are light years ahead as an opening partnership. But yes, it's been a few years since I looked in detail at the two sides but last time I did the Indian pace stocks were awful and a glaring weakness.
Jack Cowie ahead of Bond.
If NZ can get KJ fit he will be as good as Bumrah

You'd have thought so, but unfortunately despite destroying everyone they faced within 3 days, WIndies finish 6th after WTC over rate penalties apply.

Ultimately SA face suprise finalists Sri Lanka after a kind draw and timely rain helps the latter qualify.
This is the true reason they need Gibbs.

It's clear that Aus have the best AT XI due to the Bradman factor, and the WI have the second best overall side, but England have a great shot at beating either side on their day. England have the best openers (Hobbs and Hutton), a very strong batting lineup, solid spin options and a very good pace attack. Very solid side all round.

South Africa round out the top 4, with their spin options being their weakness.

It would be awesome to see a WTC played with all time sides. Would be great.

Englands bowling is just not good enough.

Barnes, Trueman, Third pacer is where the problem rises, it really depends on how much people wanna rate a Larwood.

Which team will lose most points for over rates?

itt: kyear waxes lyrical about Windies players and downplays others

anyone shocked?

Who did I down play? Said clearly Gilly was better than Walcott and that Smith is top 6 (ahead of Lara btw)

Every opinion different to yours isn't blasphemy nor favoritism.

I'm actively lobbying for McGrath in another thread and half my posts are about Barry Richards, a white cricketer from apartheid South Africa.

Who else outside of your pure circle do you push for?

Name two.
