I suspect it probably did touch the ground and that the ball touches the ground more often than decisions indicate. But where was the replay from the direction of point - which is quite a common angle - that could have shown us much better?

He's a little slow on speed but I wouldn't call it illegal.
I have always been sceptical of the explanation that 'the fingers are actually under the ball, it's just foreshortening' when it comes to these sorts of decisions. However, that decision would be out according to the standards by which such catches have been almost always judged.
Maybe he's a real purist and thinks the flexion shouldn't be above zero at all. Bumrah of course with negative flex.
