**Official** 5th Test at Sydney, 3-7 Jan 2025

To be fair to Joel he's ****ed either way. Australians are (rightly) pissed off and Indian fans would have cried foul if it was given.

In other news I can't wait to see Smith go into umpiring post career given how passionate he is about it, and how good he clearly thinks he is

At home, I can imagine Josh Hazlewood asking "who the f*** is the third umpire?"

** incidentally, that was the correct decision in that Test.

It's a joke because umpires have been trained for years to prioritise fingers under the ball over everything else because of the foreshortening effect. But Joel Wilson just throws that out the window because yolo

I think it grazed the turf but I think it shouldn't matter in general tbh. If it feels like a catch, it should be a catch

Pushing it up with his thumb is utterly unbelievable.
He was the NSW state marble champion in primary school.

Its either BCCI fly everyone home and put a death warrant on him, or annoy Australians for a day before we all forget about it.

I'd have done the same thing. Also in seriousness it's not that shocking a decision and pretty understandable how he came to it with the observable loss of control.

Situations like this is why Gambhir wanted Pujara. Even if you don't score runs, getting through these periods and stabilizing is so important.

Should have just tried making the correct decision then, against his natural instincts as it is.
Asking the wrong guy to do that. Didn't I see that he was by far the worst umpire for decisions overturned by DRS?

Nah I agree with that last part. It could have touched the ground in the last movement

Eventful first morning, India probably regretting batting first but it could have been worse for them if Joel Wilson didn't come to Kohli's rescue.

T thought Joel made the right call there though, there was too much grass on the ball to give that out even though it looked to be spectacular.
