Probably, and the greatest bowler ever getting 3 votes is crazy, no offense to Gavaskar but I don't think anyone bar Hobbs/Bradman/Sobers should realistically beat Marshall
Given it was solely 19th century, I will throw in Imran and Hadlee too. But yeah, Gavaskar getting 12 votes isn't bad, Marshall getting 3 is ****ing insane.

Malcolm Marshall’s fame and reputation and has grown much more in the last 20 years compared to the 1990s
Yeah I was talking to my old man this week about this and he said there wasn't even really a consensus he was the best WI quick during/just after his career (at least in Australia). He reckoned that was probably because he wasn't part of the original quartet, and then later on Curtly's performances in Australia outshone him here too.

When people talked about the best fast bowler of all time in cricket magazines (around early 1990s), the first name that popped up was Dennis Lillee. Later they were saying if Ambrose continues to play like this, he has a chance to become the greatest fast bowler.

But nothing whatsoever in 50% of the games. It's an impactful series but not a great one.
Almost no batsman impacts every game they play in a series, except maybe Bradman. The impact he had in all 3 of those games and the opposition is enough for it to definitely be a Great one in my book.

Gavaskar second best?
Are you serious or joking?
Oh he’s very serious.

Exactly. Very low percentage and also ruthless to a completely unparalleled extent otherwise.
That’s what, 27.5% of his innings below 20.

Lets see for some batsmen I think are pretty quality.. (I did my top 18 batsmen plus the other Fab 4 members - felt Pollock and Headley’s sample sizes would be low for this exercise)

Sutcliffe - 21/84 (25%)
Bradman - 22/80 (27.5%)
Hobbs - 30/102 (29.4%)
Hammond - 46/140 (32.9%)
Barrington - 45/131 (34.4%)
Hutton - 49/138 (35.5%)
Dravid - 105/286 (36.7%)
Sobers - 59/160 (36.9%)
Sangakkara - 86/233 (36.9%)
Richards - 68/182 (37.4%)
Kallis - 107/280 (38.2%)
Smith - 78/202 (38.6%)
Chappell - 59/151 (39.1%)
Ponting - 115/287 (40.1%)
Williamson - 75/186 (40.3%)
Root - 114/278 (41.0%)
Gavaskar - 88/214 (41.1%)
Border - 109/265 (41.1%)
Lara - 97/232 (41.8%)
Tendulkar - 139/329 (42.2%)
Waugh - 119/260 (45.8%)
Kohli - 96/208 (46.2%)

This was slightly weird - I did England first but forgot Root - waiting for another non Bradman player to surpass any of the English batsmen was a really long wait..

Bradman had dud games too. Even in his famous 1930 series the final game was a huge flop for him. (granted, both teams only played a single innings in a rain shortened match)

i dont know about his ranking but warne being the 5th greatest cricketer of the century midway in his career is stupid... maybe after his career ended he had a case to be the top 5 cricketer but not midway
Don't think it's As absurd as putting Gavaskar in the same tier as Bradman.

not really sure about it but Bradman got 100 votes & Gavaskar got 12 ig.. and tbf i think its good enough for Sunny to get 12 of the 500 votes
That's what I'm saying. PFK's list is worse than ESPN's.

And there were 500 voters? Don only got 100 votes?
