One more test though on a pitch so flat Holding didn't take a single wicket after running riot all series before. Not saying Kohli has had an identical series as he hasn't, just illustrating why I think you overrate Gavaskar's series in 83/84 (among a couple of others).
Dude..... Just go and look at the scorecard. WI innings had a single 50 while for India, the rest of the top 6 scored 32 combined. Marshall took a 5-fer (which you just ignored) and only two other batsmen scored any runs for India, including a 63 from Kirmani at 10 and 72 from Shastri at 8. Without that innings, it would had been easily and Indian defeat. Comeon now, you can't seriously say that was an okay innings just because Holding went wicketless!!!???

Lol it was a terrible way of illustrating it

"I know India were 92-5, and Marshall took a 5fer, but I'm going to go ahead and imply Gavaskar's double hundred was worthless because it was apparently a flat deck and Holding didnt get wickets."

Fmd, this forum is ridiculous sometimes lol. Plain idiocy.

Even if a flat deck, a double ton against the WI quartet carries some weight. Though interestingly I recall Holding considered Gavaskar a fair weather bat.

Illustrating it by saying lots of low scores means inconsistent. The hundreds were good performances.
Yeah, but you are literally comparing it with a batsman who has nothing but low scores except one century when the tough part was over..... I respect your opinions dude, but it was a really poor comparison.

The point wasn't that the two series performances are comparable as a whole, it's that Gavaskar for too many low scores for it to be a great series imo and I think more low scores than a notoriously poor individual series offers that perspective.

Meh, low scores aren't good but not when you have enough high ones as well
