Is Mushtaq Mohammad Underrated?

Was he underrated as a player and would he make your Pakistan ATG XI? Certainly was a trailblazer captain.

Yeah, massively so.

He was also criminally underbowled in Tests.
I agree.

I mean, just by the numbers this test performance by his has to be among the top 10 ever but never gets mentioned. It's like he has been airbrushed from history.

Didn’t even take a 10’fer. Pathetic

Underrated, but he's in my Pakistan ATG XI. Especially useful if going with 4 pacers. Imran, Wasim, Waqar and Asif.
I don't think he should be a sole spinner, I would prefer Pakistan to go with two spinners and Saqlain is better than Asif anyways.....

It's pitch dependent obviously. Huge fan of Saqlain so no issues on that, but Asif is another who is underrated on here, probably cos he's a criminal.

He played only 20 odd Tests and its crazy how many batsman that faced him, and even bowlers talk about his skill and ability to set batsman up. Anderson in particular always talks about him and what he learned just from watching him.

Anderson could learn a lot from a wet paper bag

I don't think Asif can make my Pak XI with too small a sample set even though he is the best new ball bowler I have ever seen.

I have Saqlain and Mushtaq Mohammad in the attack with Imran and the 2Ws. I don't think four pacers is a requisite.

Mushtaq was the best Pakistani batsman on an English greentop, and the most adept from the sub-continent on these surfaces since Merchant. Not as secure against pace as Majid or as quick on his feet against spin as Asif.

Would have bowled more in Tests but for the presence of Intikhab.

Has a similar first-class record to Clive Rice.

Test cricket: averaged just under 40 (39.17) with the bat and under 30 (29.22) with the ball.

Very good numbers for an All-Rounder. He isn't spoken about much. Absolutely he's underrated.

He has a ridiculously good FC record.

I think he justifies being in an ATG XI for Pakistan as a sort of jack in the box capable of the odd great hundred or wicket haul.
