These 2 are doing a lot of time wasting. Pulling away repeatedly and took a mini drinks break a few overs ago. Reckon they are playing the WTC game trying to book the Aussies for over rate penalties. Cheats

Pant may have 'jumped the shark' with that. As the comms said, why was he even playing that shot with a two men behind square on the fence?

Rohit and Kohli have been rightfully criticized this tour, but Pant has not been much better , batted like an absolute hack sadly.

Its his first bad series tbf, but not ideal timing with the "oldies" so useless imo.

In theory the third umpire should be keeping track of that sort of thing. While we do often end up a bit short, you'll notice it's only England with their incessant conferencing who consistently cop penalties.

Tbf this is the first time he's actually been out playing that kind of shot. His big problem before today was his suspect forward defence.

For Oz to get a penalty, India need to bat 80 overs something they haven't done in a 1st innings this series. No guarantee they'll do that here either.

It's a small shame that we don't have the measurements of the revolutions the spinners are putting on the ball, though that was only a thing for one season (11/12) here. I'd be curious to know how much less Lyon is putting on the ball than 2019, or even last season. For someone who used to excel at getting turn on unfavourable surfaces he's really struggling to get much more than a couple of inches most deliveries.

I realise those ramp shots are considered as much a part of the game as a cover drive these days, but it will never not look utterly ****ing horrendous when someone gets out playing it
It's partly because those shots almost always have - or at least appear to have - a level of premeditation that the traditional shots don't.

It's so bad. Is it worth the times when it comes off? Not in my eyes. But people go nuts over it and talk about #intent and being #aggressive, so it's just reinforcement for people to keep doing it.

In other news, before Bumrah comes out to bowl today, which he certainly will, he should spend the innings break swinging a stump at every batsmen's head. And most of the bowlers too.

Looking at both teams' strengths and weaknesses at the start of the series, I really thought it might come down to whether Head or Pant had more impact across the series. Feels weird that Pant has barely been a factor since the first innings in Perth.

It's not just about the runs it makes. Similar to playing a reverse sweep it's about messing with a bowler's areas and strategy, manipulating the field etc. Knowing the batsman might play a shot like that changes the game for a bowling side massively. It can make a big difference.
