In the absence of Clarkson I think Jacobs is an excellent pick in that difficult-to-fill role of finisher. Even though it's undoubtedly motivated by his selection for the IPL. Would definitely rather him be selected than Robinson.

Sodhi is notably absent. I think it's a good couple squads on the whole.

I threw up in my mouth a bit saying that, and just ruined @thierry henry 's Xmas (although I'm led to imagine from the first day of the cricket season he dons a green Grinch suit and doesn't remove it until April)
Mostly due to the fact that I still play. This Saturday was the worst ever, the forecast was for relentless rain all Saturday (literally at 12pm Saturday it was still saying non-stop rain for the rest of the day) so naturally I got nicely sloshed at the work Christmas party on Friday night, and then the rain just never came and we ended up playing until almost 7:30pm Saturday to boot.

Cricket is an absolute cancer on my life in every way.

Only partly serious question - is Seifert now an "I'll play for NZ when I feel like it" free agent? Cos as much I don't rate/can't stand him, you gotta think he's better than Robinson.

Unavailable due to BBL commitments (he looked awesome the other night).

Lol, similar in Wellington some weather experts in our team were sure our game would be washed out and some turned up slightly worse for were when it started on time in brilliant sunshine.

I agree Jacobs is unlikely to open but who is going to open with Robinson? Seems like Mitchell, Phillips, Ravindra are all possible candidates in the T20 games.

Find a good woman, or even a terrible one...in my experience your cricket days will be over before you know it.

Opens up new issues, mind you

I doubt he's in the frame. He's definitely better than Robinson but a) prefers franchises b) was hopeless when available

Unfortunately (?) I have a good woman and even when I had a less-good woman, she also was pretty happy with me playing cricket. I think they rightfully see it as a good way for a fat lazy bastard like me to not be a total couch potato. Probably helps that I don't have kids and there's no training involved.

Suffice to say if the missus ever took a hard line I'd be pretty happy to pull the pin on my cricket career and blame her if my teammates ever asked.

Should Conway slot back into the side when he is done with his domestic T20 commitments? I imagine it’ll be a an interesting decision for the Champions Trophy.

Maybe not tbh. Young is probably ahead of him in ODIs. And unless Conway keeps or we decide to play half a bowler light it's quite competitive for batting spots to complement Williamson, Ravindra, Mitchell, and Phillips. Chapman reduced to reserve again, although he could be helpful in Pakistan conditions.

The balance thing will be an interesting question. We went with four bowlers last WC with Ravindra actually chipping in for more overs than Phillips. However, with the return of Macewell and Ravindra not having bowled much in the past year, we'll probably see Macewell at 7 / Santner at 8 in my view.
