They’ve got the T20 World Cup on display at the ground. Just a single security guard and my youngest nearly knocked the plinth over whilst having a photo. Ah, New Zealand. Think that’s the third World Cup I’ve been able to just wander up to in NZ.

She owes us a pretty big innings now after doing that to our most consistent bat.

0* off 10 is not the most promising of starts.

I think she just wanted to get off strike from King. Didn’t appear to be reading her at all. And now the run rate’s poked. Kerr and Bates had it in reasonable control IMO.
Just seems to be a pattern of the wheels falling off when they attempt to up the ante. I know what you mean about 'reasonable control' but they don't quite seem to keep up up with the run rate to the point where they are really putting pressure on the bowlers. Ideally you'd want to be ahead of the run rate at some stages in the innings to really put some pressure on this opposition but that does not seem to happen.

Well, the problem to my mind is simply the lack of depth in the batting order. So much relies on one of four players going big. That’s a ton of pressure on our stars. I’m not seeing any great prospects at the moment either.

The new opener averages 19.25 or thereabouts in List A. Not up to snuff.

Penfold needs to work on her running. Twice she was too busy ball watching to safely make a run which was there to make. One of which she was run out on when she should always have been looking for the second so Green could retain the strike.

I’m not gonna say that’s a rubbish performance as player for player, every Australian player is superior to their NZ counterpart, and in some cases by a massive distance. But still, you can always hope.

The wheels really came off after the Halliday dismissal. We could and probably should have got a lot closer in that chase, but the women seem to have as much of a mental block against the Aussies as the men.

Credit to Australia though. Quality all-round performance, as always.

The wheels came off with Kerr’s needless dismissal IMO.
But still…

The Australian team balance is still off. McGrath didn't even bowl because there are so many other bowling options anyway, but it's an unnecessary number of allrounders in the side. They can fit in one more specialist bat without really impacting the quality of bowling but they don't want to do it because reasons.
