I would guess by getting injured mid game??
Nah man 2.53 is higher that what is expected. He literally had a WPM of 4.4 in that time (For reference, that's higher than Cummins' career WPM). And if you consider 2000-2004, his wicket per innings was 2.83. Almost 3 wickets per innings for Shoaib? Are you kidding me?

In my defence, I thought it was WPM

I like that McGrath and Gillespie both bowled in both innings in every single match they played in that time period.

In general attacking bowlers tend to have a better strike rate -Rabada, Steyn, Donald, Waqar, Shoaib.

Then there are bowlers like Ambrose, Pollock, McGrath who tend to have lower strike rates but have a better economy rates than the former.
Rubel Hossain is a strike bowler then?

Bumrah has faced slightly tougher batting line up than Peak Waqar. But look at their peak numbers ,40 innings ish even accounting for that. Peak Waqar was a beast anyone who saw him at his peak knows that.
Greatest bowler there has ever been and tbh The greatest I think there ever will be.

Interestingly I get a laugh reaction from an Indian poster when saying Peak Waqar was better than Bumrah.
Peak Imran > Peak Waqar tbh.

And Bumrah has maybe done enough to be ranked ahead of Waqar

if he was so good why were his numbers worse than Bumrah. Peak Waqar dominated the minnows
You play whoever is in front of you. Waqar at his peak dominated every team except Australia. He averaged like 19 against Indies (best team of the time)..

His stats easily tops Bumrah. The stats speak for itself anyway. And well let’s not act like Bumrah doesn’t himself average 45 against a team his country has never won a match, got smashed in home and lost the final. Waqar had lot more 5fers,10 fers, Bumrah has None.

Peak Waqar until 1994 took 190 wickets in 33 matches @ 19.15. Here is the breakdown of his stats against relatively stronger and weaker batting lineups.

Aus, India, Eng and WI - 77 wickets @ 25.40
NZ, SL and Zim - 113 wickets @ 14.90

Similarly, here is Bumrah's stats until now

Aus, Eng, NZ and SA - 160 wickets @ 21.88
WI, SL and BD - 34 wickets @ 10.32

Bumrah's stats are clearly more impressive.

He hasn't minnow bashed anywhere near Waqar during their respective peaks. One can only play what is in front of them yes, but the stats will look disproportionately awesome if you play weaker lineups more.

And it's not really like Bumrah can't bash minnows anyways, or not do so in style. I will always maintain that him in 2019 WI is some of the best spells I have ever seen.

Anything Waqar did, Bumrah has done better thus far. What Waqar has is a period of time as a serviceable but not exceptional bowler for the second half of his career
