Anyone remember the heat game where sams did this exact same thing and punter was losing his **** on comms for 3 straight overs? Good times.

I like Pope, I want him to do well, but he doesn't seem to have much 'devil' in his bowling and batsmen can latch onto him like that. I suspect he doesn't put that much spin on the ball which is why his deliveries come off the pitch in a distinctly unthreatening manner.
That probably was the case for the first one and maybe the second but after that I think he just got completely shellshocked and was just bowling whatever

Is ponting commentating any hurricanes games this season? Always golden when he watches them **** the bed and sounds two seconds away from running onto the field and trying to win the game himself come hell or high water.

Not convinced Sams hit it. There was a classic ‘spike’ before the ball reached the bat (so must’ve been bat on ground) then just a ‘murmur’ as the ball passed the bat. Not sure what to make of said ‘murmur’.

I think it's a fundamental limitation in his bowling though. He has no pace off the pitch and he can't dart it in. He's bowled decently in the Shield and frankly might be better off trying to increase his accuracy for the format where you're less likely to get smashed.

It was terribly captaincy to bowl him at this stage, but they clearly don't trust Bazley, which left them with no pace options, having only picked two others, and one having bowled out.

You could have bowled overton I guess? Anyone who's watched any reasonable amount of sam's batting can tell you he's more likely to bosh the spinner (23 @165 till today vs 18 @150 vs pace bowlers).

I didn’t check his speeds so could be wrong, but to me it looked like Pope did bowl some quicker, some slower, some short outside off, some fuller etc. The commentators telling a spinner to just bowl seam up or just bowl yorkers was pretty reductive tbh. You wouldn’t see an elite spinner in that situation just bowling seam up yorkers. The issue is more that his bowling (trajectory, lack of spin, whatever it may be) is obviously just too hittable.

They'd obviously planned for Overton to bowl the last over though

Not sure who you're agreeing or disagreeing with, but the last sentence is basically my point. Zampa never turns it much but often gets the ball to skid or hurry off in an awkward manner. Pope is the opposite in that he lacks that venom, so whatever he tries is often still hittable.
