What a top 3.
Yeah, he did it because he's such a fierce competitor but I wonder in hindsight whether him bowling so many overs in Hamilton was a significant mistake. I know you don't want to put guys in cotton wool but at 2-0 and coming back from the knee, to bowl 24 overs then an intense load in the second, it's not worked out well. And that's not good with what's aheadThought it was a bit mad that Stokes bowled so much here, there’s no need at all when you’re not one of the main 3 seamers. If it’s an issue which will affect him in the medium term, then I imagine Woakes will be the beneficiary, although his batting has very much declined of late, I do wonder if Carse, Atkinson or Ahmed could do a job up at 6 or 7 at Test level
Kane is freelance, and may miss that low stakes tour, he certainly is no longer obligated/copntrcted to go on it (if it were to to be skipped, most likely voluntarily on his behalf - or possibly by the selectors/his mutual decision to give experience to someone else. e.g. debut Mariu and move Young to 3 etc)A deeply concerning article on Cricinfo. I had assumed, or convinced myself, that Kane would bow out after the 4 test tour of Australia. To think he might walk away from test cricket while still in such sublime form and we’ll lose him to the T20 franchise dross….
Will Williamson stay or will he go? Century shrouds uncertainty at Seddon Park
As one New Zealand legend bows out with fanfare, another threatens to take the side-exitwww.espncricinfo.com
It seems absolutely crazy, you have to wonder why he'd do it. He basically just kept pushing himself until he broke down, and for what? England have won the series and he'd already proven he could make some sort of limited bowling contribution. He's best used as a point of difference in short spells, a disrupter and partnership breaker.Yeah, he did it because he's such a fierce competitor but I wonder in hindsight whether him bowling so many overs in Hamilton was a significant mistake. If he missed Zimbabwe it would be a plus in my book, gives more opportunity to others to develop. It would be utterly inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. 2026 is a massive year for NZ test cricket, to lose Kane from the test side at this juncture would be a big blow to our plans.Kane is freelance, and may miss that low stakes tour, he certainly is no longer obligated/copntrcted to go on it (if it were to to be skipped, most likely voluntarily on his behalf - or possibly by the selectors/his mutual decision to give experience to someone else. e.g. debut Mariu and move Young to 3 etc)
The answers Kane was giving can be read that way, rather than any permanent test retirement talk.
It's pure macho BS IMHO.Yeah, he did it because he's such a fierce competitor but I wonder in hindsight whether him bowling so many overs in Hamilton was a significant mistake. Can you swing a club with a dicky hamstring?'The ECB say: "Ben will be further assessed at the end of the Test. If required, he is expected to bat in England's second innings."'
LolIf required
England still need 600 to win! There goes any pressure built up
What an attacking weapon at the top. Put the opposition on the back foot from the first over, surely that is quintessential Bazball.Clearly this will be a massive defeat but Bethell looks a good player. Hits the ball so cleanly like Brook. Love to see him open instead of Crawley
He’s so easy on the eye, the cover drive off Southee was gorgeous.Clearly this will be a massive defeat but Bethell looks a good player. Hits the ball so cleanly like Brook. Love to see him open instead of Crawley
