Well I am on the point of wanting to drop Smith and I don't think his career has long left regardless. Getting Green in for him (obviously not an option this series) and McSweeney replacing Marsh could be something to work with. But that leaves us needing to find two openers, where the options are either inexperienced with obvious technical flaws (Konstas) or journeymen (Hunt, Harris).
TBH it does looks like Konstas technical flaws are being reticified pretty quickly. I'm worried that Bumrah might eat him alive if he's picked now, but I think he could well be ready by the next Ashes (think we might go a lot more radical for Sri Lanka).

The other opener is o/c a problem though. Harris at least is a lefty (so might nullify Bumrah to some degree), but still isn't good enough for Test cricket long-term, and this is Hunt's first good season in a while. Bancroft's completely lost form, too.

Are the commentators really struggling to see the action or something? That's two times they've struggled to tell if the ball carried when it dropped like two metres short.

need mcsweendogg to score some runs to hold off Great Satan marcus harris as soon as possible
His bat coming down from 4th slip + playing at balls that are going to go through 2 feet above off-stump doesn't bode well for his career as an opener. Mind you, part of that might be due to the variable bounce Bumrah produces.

To be fair, the bloke averages <20. There probably isn't a non-NZ batsman he doesn't eat alive right now, in these conditions.

If the producers are reading this thread whilst looking for something to fill screen time with this afternoon if the weather comes in, I'll be playing pickleball in the inner suburbs between 2-4pm. It's a hell of a spectacle, and it would really draw in the viewers. I'll be seeing if I can get a couple of more around the net winners in my clean winners column.

I'm assuming this is some kind of *** thing.

So can we say Ed Cowan was right about McSweeney not having a good enough technique to be a Test opener?

With Bumrah having McSweeney 4-12, how can he open in Melbourne if he gets him again cheaply in 2nd innings?

If Hunt had not had those two seasons averaging in the 20s and gotten his average to the high 30s I'd have had no objection to him coming in as a stopgap, and I reckon the selectors would have agreed. But he did have those seasons, so here we are.

It's especially frustrating as he has a good conversion rate - 11 hundreds to 11 fifties - but he doesn't score them often enough and gets practically nothing in between.

Oh boy Brendon Julian is back. Looking forward to his truly avant garde interpretations of the Indian players' names
I seriously don't get what he adds. His knowledge of the game is poor and he's not a particularly engaging speaker. He doesn't even have one area he specialises in. Literally everyone else on Fox I can see what they add even if I don't think they're great commentators, Julian I don't.
