**Official** England in New Zealand 28 Nov-18 Dec 2024 - 3 Tests

Although I don't consider myself one to engage in cod psychology, I find it hard to avoid when it comes to the approach of both sides.

I don't think it can be a coincidence that England have got so many good performances out of debutants in in bazball era; so much emphasis seems to be put on giving them the belief that they belong at this level.

Contrast that with New Zealand's approach, whereby people seem to be forced to wait on the fringes for years, all the while being told that tests are a level above and being ready for them is some kind of special ordeal. Is it any wonder people take a while to adapt?

Mark Richardson said he relished playing at international level because everything is better. The support for the players is better, the practice facilities are better, international pitches are better.

I think its even more true now than in Richardson's day because the plunkett shield is stronger than it was then (and nzc deserve credit for that). Test cricket is tough enough, you don't need to be over egging that to new players.

'Black Caps captain Tom Latham says they will not confirm their playing XI for the third test against England till the morning of the match in Hamilton. Latham said he’s seen the pitch at Seddon Park change already so they wanted to leave it as late as possible before making a call.
If they play three seamers, it becomes a case of whether they go with newcomer Nathan Smith or 106-test veteran Tim Southee, for what would be his farewell test. Latham said they knew who it would be, but he would not say publicly.'

And same generally applies with domestic compared to club cricket. A guy who used to play club cricket with Blundell was saying there were a few guys who were as good at the club but Blundell really flourished when he got picked for Wellington with better wickets/facilities.

That might be true in 2024 (although if we'd caught in Chch, Smith would've started with a 5-fer).
In most of the Stead reign many debutants have
started really well:
Ajaz winning us a test in the UAE, Jamieson as peak Garner, Mitchell and Blundell doing well as injury replacements, Conway 200 at Lords etc

"the Pavilion End has been renamed the Southee End"...“he's the same old Timmy. That's why we love him”... "As for whether he will bowl at the Southee End? 'I'm sure he'll have a crack down there at some point.'"

Lol, he's playing. They think we're idiots

Glad he is getting an End named after him.
