Actually now in retrospect I rate Lillee above Donald and Akram. Magnificent wicket taking ability(most impressive out of the ATG pacers), ATG at home and in Eng, brilliant in NZ. Unproven in SC sure, but also had a fabulous series vs an ATG WI at home

Imran averaged 25 in the Caribbean
Citing the 25 average for Imran to imply he was anything less than ATG level in WI is kinda like saying Viv wasn't ATG in Australia because he averaged only 47 there. The quality of his performances, the quality of opposition and the huge haul of wickets (6 wpm) makes it clear his WI numbers are amazing.

He doesn't care if he is consistent. He is bitter. It's the same reason he is not voting in this poll because he can't deign to select Imran ahead of the others.

He is believed by a lot of members on this group to be amongst the 5 or so greatest. There was an old captaincy battle ran, and Imran, Taylor, Benaud etc were in the final 4 or so. Border was a mighty inspirational figure, but not that great tactically(same thing Ian Chappell said). And Imran was great tactically yes. Bowling of slow spinners to achieve a drawn series in WI was a masterstroke. And Imran is recalled by most to be a very shrewd captain
Border
Ranatunga
Taylor
Chappell
Worrell
Benaud
Clarke
Dhoni
Flemming
McCullum
Brearley
Jardine

And that doesn't include

Lloyd was very arguably the most influential captain ever

Waugh had the best winning percentage

Richards never lost a test series

Guys like Vaughn etc etc.

Top 5 is rich and I don't think he's near that.

Lol Waugh? Viv? Freaking Dhoni? Seriously you're comparing them to Imran?

Basically you just threw the name of any reasonably goodish test captain you could think of and just call them better than Imran.

You don't know how desperate you sound trying to discredit him like this.

You seem to think I take this way more seriously and personally than is warranted.

Bitter?

Over a cricketer or cricket conversation?

Dude.....

Just to be clear, the reason I haven't is that I rate Donald over Wasim, but I also have Wasim in my all time XI, so just left it.

I literally said earlier in the thread, that Imran leads this group.

Obviously so given your over the top responses.

Anyways, you should listen to Ian Chappell talk about captaincy. When asked about the ones he admires, he mentions Imran first.

Also mentions some points about not rating based on wins/losses which you do for Waugh and Viv.

Benaud said Imran was 'not just an ordinary good captain, but a very, very good captain'. Brearely put him in his top captain list. I can recall another dozen top cricketers off the top of my head who have called Imran a great captain.

I don't know why you have to dig your heels in on such obvious things.

Doesn't make any sense, but anyways...

Waugh, Dhoni, Mcculum, Clarke don’t belong in a list like that. The ones i concede better are Worrell, Taylor, Brearley and Benaud. Still top 5 for me. Agree to disagree here

I would add Babar Azam to that list
