India will not travel to Pakistan to play the Champions Trophy

They should care though, because they need a consolation prize after their disastrous home WC performance last year.
Tests>>ODIs, and given Australia has the lost the 2 series away to India, winning the WC in India was barely a beginning to make up for their disastrous home performances. And seems like a third one is coming

What happens in these tournaments if Pakistan makes the final? Is India really going to accept a final outside India in a tournament they host?
No I think that's the holdup.

Ind are prolly okay with Pak playing their non India group games outside India and one semi outside India if India is not playing.

The group stage game vs Pak, hypothetical semi vs Pak, final (no matter who plays) India are not going to let go out of India. 2011 formula basically.

These are the same games which are being played in the UAE for the CT.

So Pakistan are a bit miffed.

India is not agreeing to Pak terms.

Ind are okay with Pak playing non-Ind group stage games outside Ind plus semi outside Ind if Ind is not in that semi. Everything else in India.
India are okay with Pak playing non-India group stage games outside India? That's nice since the Champions trophy is supposed to be in Pakistan not India lol

Has anyone asked the other teams in their group if they're happy to travel outside Pakistan for these games? It has the potential to cause an administrative nightmare for some players (eg look what happened to Bashir).

Just kick them out....

Whatever it takes!!!
What if we played the Ind-Pak game for this CT alone in Pak, basically fly in and fly out for the game alone and then they will agree to play any potential Ind-Pak game in India in the future, right?

Think that is how this will end up.

2026 and 2031 will have 2011 formula.

Pak will only play Ind group stage game, semi vs India and final vs anybody in India.

2029 CT will be 2023 WC formula. Everything in India.

Ind will not host AC. Pak may get a few more AC in hybrid model.

Pakistan just played a whole world cup in India. They have set a precedent themselves. They won't be able to have all their matches outside India in future. Any match vs ind or final will be in India without question. Next CT may even get scrapped depending on how this one goes

According to News18, the PCB has agreed to a hybrid model for India's Champions Trophy matches – on the condition that future India-Pakistan encounters scheduled on Indian soil will also happen in at neutral venues.

maybe start with better cricketers and a better cricket administration. Pakistan’s problem is not India, Pakistan’s problem is that Pakistani cricket is mediocre. Perhaps like most other things, Pakistan should care more about itself and less about India,

The problem is not Pakistan being mediocre, and I can see why that's a tempting interpretation, that's not the point being made

This saga highlights the (geo)politicisation of cricket and it will leave Pakistan cricket disadvantaged

The test cricket schedule looks bleak for Pakistan

this could all be avoided if they didn't let terrorists operate in broad daylight while calling themselves a democracy tbh
This is the sort of viewpoint that turns cricket administration into a communal squabble, which is what we have with the above

There is no higher principle of sport, cricket or effective stewardship of cricket from the bcci. Just we are rich, we are much richer than you and so on

Ok.

In that context Pakistan cricket will always be undermined by the authority that's meant to safeguard it's interests through principles of sporting fairness, that does not align with a might is right approach.

Pakistan used to do the same bullshit back in the 90s when both countries were poor.

Now that the Indian economy and hence the board has pulled away, India is bossing it. But let us have no delusions that Pakistan wouldn't have done the same if they were not in power.

Might is right. It always has been. Just like back in the day the WC was always held in England for 3 consecutive times.

Let Pakistan accept peace with India and accept LOC as border (it always has been a defacto one). A lot of the Pak elite are still under the delusion that this the 80s-90s and that they can still compete.

Then they can get India tours, IPL contracts as well as MI Karachi, Islamabad Capitals, Lahore Royals etc.

This validates my point very well

That's why I say there ought to be a consideration whether Pakistan wants to even bother with the sport at all with that outlook, in a pragmatic sense

Even if Pakistan was more pleasing to India in a geopolitical way, which cannot happen because of china, it's not as if they would become part of a big four, things would only marginally improve, there is no real carrot here

Which is why cricket is structurally against not favourable to all nations not the big 3.
