It is. He isn't dangerous enough. Maximum run threshold is important.

I think given his slowish tempo and reasonable solidity, he should bat higher.

That's a good point. He batted at 6 a lot initially because there was no way Amla, AB, or Faf were going to drop down the order. But them no longer being there has allowed him to move up and it's paid off.

Yeah I think he was lucky to get as many opportunities as he did, but has eventually justified that and is an important player for them now.

Two things kept him in the side. One was a knack for scoring runs in difficult conditions and the other was that he tended not to be the worst performing batsman. Since he debuted we've seen people like Van Zyl, De Bruyn, Kuhn, Hamza, Klaasen, Van der Dussen, Petersen, and Erwee come and go.

At a guess of what they mean. 6 low scoring not outs boost his average. Runs per innings in that time is 38.76 as opposed to average of 46.03

Only his second ton in that period from 38 innings.
