Where will Steve Smith end up being ranked?

sayon basak

International Debutant
Smith is still averaging 60 plus, though it is clear he is past his peak. He is 33 and maybe have at least three years left if not more.

Where will he end up as an all-time bat? Top ten? Top five? Top three? Best since Bradman?
How fast time flies! Now it seems like his average will end up closer to 50 than 60.

Whatever it takes!!!
56.40 puts him in the Kallis/ Sanga league and in the Ponting class.

Tendulkar - Lara still better?
They always were. Its why we always say wait for the whole career before judging any player. He is at that same level as them, for me.. But not better and I have always leaned towards the Lara-Sachin better than Smith, even at his peak.

Is this the thread where I told @TheJediBrah Smith would average less than 30 as an opener, he did exactly that but TJB never acknowledged it?
Firstly, I'm not judging that case on just 4 matches. Secondly pretty sure the main point was that he wouldn't do any worse as opener than he would at 4, which still seems a safe call for now

Which part do you disagree with?

Smith has the best sustained 5-6 year peak I've ever seen. Overall I'd take lara and Sachins careers but a peak like that counts for a lot in my eyes.
No doubting his peak was incredible, but he didn't dominate attacks the way Lara, Richards, Ponting & Tendulkar (slightly lesser extent) did & you just said it yourself, you'd take their overall careers. We all have an overall calculation for rating batsmen, and I do think 'peak' should be factored but it ain't the be or and end all for me to suddenly project Smith ahead of Lara and Tendulkar.
