Warne is closer to Murali than McGrath and Imran are; but I think they have a clear difference in between. Being a lone wolf is much more difficult to begin with and no one carried a team on their back quite like Murali. WPM, I will say, is definitely an indicator of increased value when he a lead of 3 runs in average to begin with. It's kinda close, but not really. More like Hobbs and Hutton or McGrath and Steyn. Overall, won't take Warner in mine really as simply don't think his batting is anywhere close to be a big enough factor for closing that gap.
Is there a gap though?

I personally don't think there is.

Also don't see a gap between Hobbs and Hutton either.

Warne is better. More adaptable, less defensive and proven in Australia.
You mean proven in *checks notes* his home???? Where tf he adapted away you think Murali couldn't had? Don't think, even adjusting for home conditions, we are comparing the home GoAT to someone merely Great at home, and they have similar away record.

Honestly I think Warne was every bit as capable of matching Murali in SL if he had a home career there. But I am not sure if Murali could have succeeded in Australia.

They both sucked in India. But Australia is a big hole for Murali.

I have explained Murali in Australia many times previously, no point doing so again.

I also disagree that Warne could had matched Murali at home or Murali couldn't succeed in Australia.

Murali’s home record is unparalleled

Imran at home was an even bigger monster than Murali imo
Imran has a great record too.
163 wickets at an average of 19.

Murali has 495 wickets at home. That’s more than 3x of what Imran has taken.

The sheer volume of wickets Murali has at home is just mind blowing

Remove the Minnows for both (Zimbabwe and Bangladesh for Murali and Lanka for Imran) and I'm pretty sure Imran would've significnantly better average and strike rate.
