Starting to wonder if Robinson should’ve been required to earn his spot in the traditional manner, via the scoring of runs
Yeah look wish the young guy well and all but being called for international duties when you've played and handful of games and have next
to nothing to show for it must feel like a smack in the face to those who have some credentials.

Don't see the point of taking Foxcroft along and not giving him a game. Could have replaced either Robinson or Nicholls in the lineup at least once. Though Nicholls has played pretty well today.
I had the same thought - I actually find it unfathomable as to why he didn't. Why in the world would you take a guy to a three match series like this one and not play him? I don't see any sense in that. And was Foxcroft in the T20 squad and didn't play, either?

In NZC comms on Sri Lanka tour announcement they mentioned McConchie's unavailability, so assume Foxcroft took McConchie's spot.

With Ravindra and Phillips now in top 7 batting spots and bowling part time spin, and McConchie as backup (although 32 years old, so only another 2-3 seasons) perhaps NZC don't have Foxcroft in their medium term team plans, so no need to give him game time.

Not sure. Over the NZ winter NZ Cricket flew Robinson, Hay, and Foxcroft to Chennai to bat against spin in the subcontinent. There was an article about it in Cricinfo.

Perhaps Sodhi took McConchie's spot.

But why would you take him on a 5-match tour and not play him once? These are not the days of taking people as injury cover. To me, you have an obligation a) of course, to win games but also b) grow talent and service a wider squad in terms of progression for the player and the ability to put out strong sides. Never has that been more important as teams/squads across formats are more varied and fluid. At some stage, you're going to have to play Dean Foxcroft because Ravindra, Phillips, maybe even Bracewell are not going to be involved with franchise participation.

Foxcroft is a top order batter, so Nicholls should have made way. Yes, Nicholls got runs before it rained, but he didn't in the first two and he is a guy that is going to be of little use to us in a World Cup cycle and really his international days should be at a close.

"just being with the squad in the nets is an amazing experience" feels like something I've read often from players and officials when it comes to guys who don't get a game

Disappointing for Foxcroft who hadn't exactly been in great form in domestic cricket before the tour either iirc. Still I assume they have earmarked him as part of their top order plans and will stick with him.

Haha well that's probably true for a guy who's played 6 international games and faced a solitary ball in ODIs, but no one gets significantly better by netting.

Perhaps he's excellent at carrying drinks and giving throwdowns
That sounds like a job that Sir Gary can do.
