If Botham gets in, I think it would have to be for Border/Waugh.

Botham is definitely the closest English player to getting in though although he was mediocre against the best team of his era.
Why tho? You already have two ATG pacers. On the contrary, your batting lineup is meh, you are literally opening ponting, who was a rookie against vertical movement.

Botham, Anderson, Root are greats but England haven’t produced a single player that would make my combined Aus-England xi since 1970. Hopefully one day England can produce a player that can break into this team.

Hayden
Ponting
Smith
Chappell
Border
Waugh
Gilchrist
Warne
Cummins
Lillee
McGrath
Botham is the only one who can make this team and that too only if they need an all rounder.

My second xi for combined Aus-Eng since 1970 might be mostly English players

Cook
Gower
Root
Pietersen/Clarke
Botham
Healy

Now do a country by country analysis and you will see one hasn't really bashed minnows away.
Ponting played 3 matches in Bangladesh and Zimbabwe combined. Kohli played 3 matches in Bangladesh.

Why is Ponting scoring 222 in 4 innings vs Kohli scoring 59 runs in 5 innings a bad thing?

Lets not also forget that Ponting’s 31 in Zimbabwe was against an easily better attack than any that Bangladesh ever produced.

Forgot WI?? Ponting also got a way easy deal in NZ.

You said minnows mate. And I’m not going to bother going through some analysis by country checklist. @Prince EWS would kill me
2000 WI bowling was pretty minnow, definitely more than current Bangladesh. In the tough places to tour (Australia, SA, England, India for Ricky) Kohli has done much better than Ponting, alongside facing better bowling and more challenging pitches everywhere.

there’s not many players I’d rate higher than Kohli overseas over the last 30 years.
Tendulkar and Smith are the obvious ones. Maybe Lara and Waugh too.
