Purely on bowling, who are our 4 best bowlers right now for Tests?

Rabada
Maharaj
Jansen
...?

I don't think we should be relying on Mulder as a primary bowler. Excellent 5th bowler should be his position. I favour somebody with pace. I've always liked Sipamla but I'm not sure he fits. With Nortje not on his best form that leaves Coetzee. Maphaka is a bit young, not fast enough? Who else?

Burger did well against India earlier this year so seemed someone capable of stepping up. But sounds like he is out for a while like Williams.

I assume it is Coetzee and then Ngidi for the home summer now.

Kwena must play some FC games rather than carry drinks. Defo play him vs England Lions.

IMHO:
Seamers:
1. Rabada
2. Jansen
3. Nortje
4. Coetzee
5. Ngidi
6. Burger
7. Sipamla
8. Williams
9. Paterson

Spinners:
1. Keshav
2. Piedt/Muthusamy

If Nortje isn't back to redball then it has to be Coetzee.

Forgot about Burger. Have we got any other real fast men available?

I have my doubts about Nortje coming back. Unfortunately I always thought he was playing above his abilities and now this injury has just taken him back to the fast straight man I think he mostly was. Will be happy to be proved wrong.

Nortje, Coetzee, Burger can hit 150 so the 3 quickest easily.

Kwena was getting it up to 147 in the Windies & Tristan Luus is also young & gets it into the 140s. They the two quickest youngsters.

In the SA20 Rabada, Dupavillon, Williams, Dala, Viljoen were among those who bowled most balls over 140kph but not express & 2 are 35

Gideon Peters looks quick & one I want to follow as a bolter.

I like Baartman too , quality player who has a good redball record , can be a handful in SA conditions..

Nortje is still next IMO. After that it's Coetzee.

Ngidi still very good in short burts but I'm not sure I'd trust him over five days anymore.

The issue is will he even make himself available for red ball cricket again. 31 this month so not convinced he will do it.

More Test Cricket in 3 weeks. I'm looking to take some leave and go to Kingsmead for the first Test. What's the feeling for this one Gents? SL have a good batting lineup but they used to rock up here with Sanga, Mahela etc so that's not new. They have some good seamers, especially Asitha who I rate but as a pace pack SA have the edge obviously.

I was initially concerned about us playing in the coastal venues but hopefully it rules out a lottery wicket like the ones we have seen in Newlands and Wanderers before.

I'm not sure honestly. SA's batting lineup looked alot better against BANG then it has for 5+ years and bavuma is back, and a lot of the exciting players in the SL team (Nissanka, Kamindu, jayasuriya, asitha) are untested in SA style conditions. I'm expecting a 1-1 split but could see 2-0 either side depending on how SA's batting ends up playing out.

It was one series but there are definitely more high ceiling players in the Test side now. We had guys like Peterson and RVVD who could win us low scoring matches but you knew they would never be 40+ averaging players. There is atleast hope that Bedingham, de Zorzi, Stubbs could hit those heights. I think Verreynne and Mulder could get to mid 30s.

On those stats alone he is very unlucky to not be in proteas test squad.

Squad has been announced for Sri Lanka. Muthusamy leapfrogging Piedt now. There will be rain around Durban next week so not sure how Kingsmead will play. Temba also fit so we are probably going to see:
1. de Zorzi
2. Markram
3. Stubbs
4. Temba
5. Bedingham
6. Verreynne
7. Mulder
8. Jansen
9. Coetzee
10. Maharaj
11. Rabada

I suppose if there is spin around we go for Muthusamy instead of Coetzee.
