South Africa Domestic Season 2024/25

Judging by the tour of NZ and the SA A side, I think we can assume the next batters in line are:

1. Breetzke/Rickelton
2. Brevis
3. Brand
4. Ackerman or Mpongwana?
5. Maybe someone from that NZ tour? I think guys like Hmaza and Peterson are at the back of the line now.

There is a game against England Lions whilst they are here. I see Freddie Flintoff has roped in Neil McKenzie and Dale Steyn to help with coaching.

New Zealand: Moore, Petersen, Hamza, van Tonder, de Swardt, Fortuin

SA A v Sri Lanka: Breetzke, Brevis, Brand, Ackerman, Du Plessis, Qeshile, Moonsamy, Mpongwana

Maybe Jordan Hermann and Josh Richards but will also monitor Bird, D Smith, Parsons, King, Pretorius, Kaplan etc

I wouldn't write Hamza and Petersen off totally as you want them to have something to play for and other guys must stick their hands up more than them.

4-day cricket starts next week
Strongest line-ups if we don't include any in Bangladesh + white-ball specialists like Hendricks, Vd Dussen, Miller, Klaasen, Nortje, Shamsi & the injured Burger/Williams

Knights on a bit of a hiding to nothing really. In this format maybe interested in Forrester & Senokwane but they will get Piedt back. Johan Van Dyk is quick but still to see if he can get wickets at this level. They didn't finish last in T20s because they did well to recruit experienced pro's like Phangiso/Siboto along with having Snyman/Tarr/Rossouw who all add value for white-ball cricket mainly.

T20 Final today Lions v Titans
I love to trying to see the next level of talent coming through & in Pretorius & Maphaka much like in the U19 CWC earlier this year, they are proving what talents they are.

Hendricks, Hamza, Vd Dussen, Van Buuren, Esterhuizen, Potgieter, Jones, Fortuin, Sipamla, Peter, Maphaka

Pretorius, Moonsamy, Galiem, Makhanya, Klaasen, Ferreira, Phehlukwayo, C Bosch/Vd Merwe, Coetzee, Dala, Shamsi

Lions with 2 (Hamza and Sipamla) & Titans with 1 (Moonsamy) not signed for SA20.

Should also add how good it was seeing Oliver Whitehead's debut the other night. The way he fielded and the ball kept coming to him , you just feel he is meant for this stage at least. Confidence.

L Pretorius Titans
S Stolk Titans
R Pillay Dolphins
O Whitehead WP
D Marais Easterns
N Zuma KZN Inland
J James WP
K Maphaka Lions
T Luus Dolphins
N Mokoena Dolphins
L Schuld* NW Dragons

* Didn't make SA U19s but SA Schools 2 years in a row

All the above made their senior debuts now for their provinces (not talking SA Emerging) from the U19 CWC earlier this year. Just waiting on D Teeger, R Seletswane (school), E Aihevba, R Daniels (school), R Norton (school but likely going rugby), M Khumalo.

Youth cricket weeks coming up in Dec/Jan ahead of SA U19 selection. Will put up the squads when I have them all.

Young Lions are here for a training camp next month ahead of their tour next year. Should be a fun series. Some of our eligible players will be in the SA20 but England will have eligible players in their Senior Lions team & the squad picked is still decent if you follow a bit of county cricket. Should also add Thomas Rew (brother of James) has been schooling at St Stithians as an exchange student this year.

Is David Teeger playing club cricket in Gauteng and aligned to lions? someone like free state could use him and a few youngster who aren't getting a look in at other teams yet wouldn't you agree like a loan deal.... Also lions and titans will have many players who won't play that can add value for free state and boland I think, If they dont want to couldnt they loan them to b division 4 day teams as they could be recalled if needed for a section team then?

At Tuks so Titans.

I agree, even Div 2 teams. They need to get smarter in this area.

Might see a Bongi Mfunelwa debut in this 4-day series. SA Schools wicketkeeper 2022. Would allow Daniel Smith to concentrate on his batting.

Different game for Smith.

Watched him a few times now. Quite quirky at the crease. Mixture of just good cricketing strokes with an eccentric wrist flick from nowhere every now and then 🤣 But one thing he knows how to do and that is score runs (like Jordan Hermann).

Definitely one to watch. Already made vice-captain at WP at 22.

Nortje wasn't great. Got hit around once or twice. Klaasen also didn't do to great bar one game.

It was a weird competition as lots of players were chopped and changed.

I think a lot of players are at early stages of impressing too like M Prince, JP King, Dian Forrester, Chris King. Simelane took wickets but not much with the bat. Luus unfortunately injured. Whitehead looked a very handy all-round cricketer on debut in a SF.

Parsons didn't do great. Swanepoel was deadly with the bat but not so much with the ball. Eathan got injured. Need more from Bird as only one big knock. Smith, more suited to 4-day and 50-overs for now.

Can see why Conrad got Jean du Plessis in the A-team but also probably suited to the 2 longer formats. Qeshile had one devastating knock. Moonsamy I guess on numbers pushes Esterhuizen in the above team.

Gideon Peters got one game. Want to see more of him.

Seleka becoming more reliable but not as dominant as Nqaba Peter. Simmonds is very under-rated but we have a truck load of slow left-armers.

If we maybe wanted to look for a T20 AR then Evan Jones could maybe come into SA selection thoughts & Mpongwana would come out the above team. Jones isn't reliable but an impact player.

Dan Smith looked great opening if you watched his game at newlands vs free state vs 6 overs powerplay suits him much better he can go over 8 an over than and he continued it.

Tests? Miguel seems best for longer format.
Nice tall strapping lad. Likes to hit hard back of a length but more in the 130s.

Just seen domestic batsman get on top of him quite often. Doesn't have that bit of battling mongrel to come back from it. Wasn't great for SA A recently v Sri Lanka.
