England Men’s Test Tour of New Zealand Schedule:

1st Test: New Zealand v England, Thursday, 28 November – Monday, 2 December 2024, Hagley Oval, Christchurch, 11.00am NZT.

2nd Test: New Zealand v England, Friday, 6 – Tuesday, 10 December 2024, Cello Basin Reserve, Wellington, 11.00am NZT.

3rd Test: New Zealand v England, Saturday, 14 – Wednesday, 18 December 2024, Seddon Park, Hamilton, 11.00am NZT.

This should be an intriguing series. England with a point to prove to the haters after an abjectly dire performance in the last two tests against Pakistan with bazball under the spotlight again, and NZ on a high after an unlikely series win in India.

I hope we produce some pitches with seam or spin that challenge England's batting line up and not play into their runfest objective.

Totally agree about intriguing. Assuming that NZ don't suddenly produce slow turners, we can probably ignore the events of the last couple of weeks other than the fact NZ should have plenty of confidence. But I don't suppose England's will be dented. Really tough one to call....

All of our worries going into the Pak series were related to bowling, but really the batting was the bigger disappointment in the two defeats. Carse exceeded expectations, Rehan had a great showing in the final Test, Atkinson continues to impress. Leach and Bashir mixed bag at best.

I suppose it gives grounds for optimism because you'd assume our batting will do better, but who knows.

The worry of course is that we smash a lot of runs and the management ignore the fact we can't bat in certain conditions and don't make the necessary changes for the future.

But we don't go back to Asia until 2027, and that's to Bangladesh. The next WTC Cycle looks quite favourable for England (apart from 5 Tests in Aus of course).

You probably meant better than how that bit reads, but iirc they took a test off us last time and the series was drawn 1-1. I suspect that our main current strategy on turners of hoping that Root makes a double will be irrelevant unless Joe keeps going longer than I think he will, especially after Stokes calls it a day. And our secondary current strategy of praying that someone else comes off will be even less viable as the long consequences of playing most of the CC in the spring or autumn means that we're unlikely to have found anyone else who can play the spinners remotely well when the ball's actually turning. But you can quote me in three years time if I'm wrong.

I was more suggesting that a 2 Test Tour to Bangladesh doesn't exactly carry the same level of profile as 5 Tests in India or 3 in Pakistan/Sri Lanka. I suspect it will go largely unnoticed unless there's anything particular riding on it at the time.

In a weird way, the tough tours being 5 tests long might actually help the win percentage nonsense which is what the WTC goes by.

Duffy / Tickner, probably, though if one of those four get injured they could end up playing Santner instead. Otherwise, the leading domestic seamers are probably Clarke, Randell, and Toole? This is of course presuming that Nathan Smith actually gets picked...
