Amazed and relieved to hear that Think About It was able to walk off the track after he appeared to collapse during the Sydney Stakes.

Harry Coffey wins the Caulfield Cup! Amazing to see.

And Ciaron Maher pulls off an Everest-Caulfield Cup double within the space of less than 90 minutes.

And then his trainer wins a $5 million race with a rising star a couple of hours later. The highs and lows come thick and fast in this sport.

I had the misfortune of coming across that on X last night, looked horrific. Amazed that he was able to walk away.

Champions Day at Ascot on Saturday, Kyprios and Charyn confirmed themselves at the top of the tree whilst Kalpana looks a mare to take to the big 12 furlong races next year for my local trainer Andrew Balding. Would love to see Charyn go to the Breeders Cup before retirement, a real warrior of a miler. The sprinters were the usual mess whilst the Champion Stake was also a muddled affair. Hopefully it was just the ground which did for Economics and we see him again next year.

Think About It has been retired.

Via Sistina - European horse making our horses look second rate. Easiest win in the Cox Plate you'll ever see. Broke Winx's track record for the 2040m at Moonee Valley too. Won by 8 lengths.

Via Sistina was a solid G1 horse in Europe but comes to Australia and wins G1s including a dominant Cox Plate victory. Thr depth in Australia at 1600m+ currently and has been for the past 10 to 12 years....has been very shallow.

She was a decent mare, especially with a bit of cut in the ground. Unlucky not to win a Champion Stakes (not a vintage renewal), not surprised to see her dotting up in Group 1’s in Aus. Very impressive performance although I guess the question is what did she beat?

And yet she won the Cox Plate on a good track. But yeah in terms of world 2000m standards you raise a good question.

The runner-up had some strong form in Japan and Hong Kong, and Japanese horses have proven in the US and Dubai in recent years that their racing is world-class.

Just seemed to me like it was a freakish, career-best performance by the mare.

It's an odd track too. Having seen the replays I hadn't realised that most of the racing is done round the bend with such a short straight, worse than Chester where you can also get some odd results. Yeah, don't think I'd look too deeply into this one, let's see what she does next time (staying in Aus or heading to Japan?).

If Addeyb can go over and win Aussie G1s then it shows the level over there.

That seems a bit controversial, random vets kick out the International favourite for the race? They know more than the Coolmore team (who are clearly not happy about it)?
The vet checks for the Melbourne Cup are in place for a very good reason. There's plenty of reading material out there on the internet regarding this matter if you want to learn more.

It's a flat race. A bloody handicap, not even a race full of class horses.
