NZ need min 100 run lead to be in the drivers seat.

India could run through them for 120 or under in their second innings.
India aren't chasing anything over 150 on this deck. We're horrible chasers. Need to somehow get to parity in the first innings otherwise we're done .

How India can't bat on this surface against Murali Santner and Ghulam Phillips, given their experience in these conditions and the quality they're able to bat against day in, day out in the nets, is absolutely bewildering.

The number one thing Santner, a white-ball bowler, has struggled with in test cricket is that batsmen can just sit on him, as he doesn't pose enough threat to force a wicket. And then his control slips a little and singles come easily. You can do this all day long.

I know this wicket helps Santner and adds a little real threat, but honestly the one thing he'd love more than anything else is for batters to attack him and take risks - as happens in white-ball cricket where he's more effective. Much like Vettori in the past. So err, thanks Sarfaraz.

India can't bat on anything against anyone. Apart from pant and jaiswal, no one even averages over 40 with the bat in the last 5 years.
