So the 4 CSK bois in the Kiwi side today made about 200 of the 260 they managed.

And 2 chennai born and bred boys took all the 10 wickets that fell.

Chennai Rocks, Burgey sucks.

But for Zahid (and I guess, Atkinson, Rabada and Mulder) all the wickets that fell today fell to off spinners, both right arm and left arm. What a day of test cricket
Again, edit and end it with "spin rocks, Burgey sucks".

Whatever it takes!!!
Jayaram P: "Only 3 names appear in NZ scoreboard. Washington, Ashwin and Pant. No fielder's name in that list."
New Zealand vs India, New Zealand in India, 2nd Test

Only one outfield catch and that was by Ash.

We should call this the Ash-Wash.

Pitch came to life later in the afternoon and every other ball was doing something. I think 259 is still a good score, although NZ had relatively easier conditions in the initial 40+ overs, so should have definitely got 325+. Having said that, 259 appears to be around par anyway, if not slightly above par, based on current state of the pitch.

Thing to note is that left handers are scoring large majority of the runs- Conway 76, Rachin 65 and Santner 33. So we can probably expect the likes of Jaiswal/ Pant/ Sundar/ Jadeja having to do bulk of the scoring against the left armers Santner and Ajaz.

Rachin's going to be one of the top 3 bats in the world, Washington one of the best all-round cricketers. Great to see two young guns squaring off.

Google says:

Sundar's father, a cricketer who made it to the Tamil Nadu Ranji probables without getting into the final squad, named him Washington to honour his godfather, Mr Washington, who would buy bats for him and pay his fees.
I will just add to that I read about this in an interview of his father probably after the Gabba match, and I remembered him saying if he ever had another son, he will name him Washington Junior. The dude really loved and respected his Godfather.

Because I don't see the right handers faring well against them.

Rachin so ***y. Vital innings from Conway, will be disappointed with that dismissal though.

Looks pretty poor to only get 259 after losing the 4th wicket at 197. It's not uncommon for a side to suffer a lower order collapse in unfamiliar turning conditions, but we'd still hope for more from this 5-8. Fairly regulation dismissal for Mitchell, though it'd be great if he can find some form. Awful awful shot from Blundell, ugh. Although he has some scores in Asia, I have never liked Phillips back-foot-swat approach to playing spin, I wouldn't be surprised if it catches up on him. Bad dismissal today, what was that shot. Santner did ok.

Congrats to Washington Sundar, the ball to get Rachin was lovely. Akash Deep looks a clone of Mohammed Shami.

India favourites for the first innings lead, and a critical innings for our spinners who didn't do much of the damage in Bengaluru.

Not a fun time for Blundell in the subcontinent. Made scores in Karachi though those wickets were a lot flatter. Made 60 second innings in Galle when we were following on and the match was gone. Otherwise there's a heeeeaaaap of single-digit scores. Has 10 innings averaging 4.5 between India and Bangladesh .

Blundell doesn't appear to have a mid point in general. Throughout his career he has been either world class or a liability.

He isn't likely to do what Conway has recently and post a score despite being in terrible nick.

Blundell is a solid mid-tier keeper bat who is well above the NZ average against quality pace and below against spin. This isn't a surprise to me and if we were smart we would have tried grooming another specialist keeper for SC games and keep him around for SENA.

Santner bowling the perfect speed for this pitch. I know he isn't the most consistent but I'd hate facing him; his run-up has a weird, stuttered quality about it, like he's skipping a few frames or moving through slightly thicker air.
