*Official* New Zealand tour of India 2024

Yeah I felt exactly the same about both players tbh. I think pretty highly as Washington as a batting all-rounder but he's been picked primarily for bowling here, and Kuldeep so often gets a really raw deal - I think he's actually better than Jadeja on bowling alone tbh, let alone Sundar.
Perhaps we should just accept that for aslong as Jadeja and Ashwin are around, every other spinner eill be treated as an after thought to them?

Hope Sundar does well, potentially an excellent batsman though I'm not convinced he's all that with the ball. Really salty about Kuldeep being dropped again tbh, guy is one of the most unlucky players in the world the last few years. Absolute class record but gets binned as soon as he has one not-great game (even then he bowled pretty decently first game I thought) . Dude must've pissed some people off higher up to be treated like this consistently.
Your management really don’t like the heavy set trio of Kuldeep, Safaraz and Shaw.

santner is so frustrating because on paper he looks like he has the ingredients to be a fast-turner bully but has never figured it out
Absolutely looks like he should be able to do a passable Axar Patel impersonation by firing in the ball from height on the right wicket... but doesn't. He may not get a better chance than this test, provided the batters put up any sort of score.

It's barely a role being second left-arm-orthodox after Ajaz and with Rachin's part-timers also available, though I think they have one eye on Ajaz retiring in a couple of years too.

That's fine, but I don't think Kuldeep should be getting dropped for the likes of Axar and Sundar this frequently. Way better than them. Ashwin-Jadeja can bat too so the team management just doesnt have their priorities straight imo. Kuldeep is a far superior bowler to those two.

Their thinking is we’ve got 2 of the best spinners in the world and one of the best quicks. Are we really benefitting from the 5th extra bowling option as much as we would shoring up the fragile batting?

Not saying I agree with it but it’s logical.

Conway digging himself in here against the spinners, I'm more confident with him playing spin than pace and he will mostly be playing spin now.

Sundar is bowling first change right now. He's clearly been picked as a frontline spinning option. The batting will obviously help.

Anyway, I'm not only talking about this test in isolation. The fact that he's played only 13 tests in 5 years is completely criminal when we've played three spinners at home frequently.

Disagree, he could be half the meh bowler he is and they still may have picked him. He was picked out of Ranji for making runs and because he can kinda bowl.

Kuldeep should have played though. He bowled well without luck last game and was amazing in the England series.

Man Stead has really killed you guys.
That is peak pessimism, most NZ cricket supporters are pessimistic, myself included, but there is still room for some optimism, we did win the last test.

Conway and Young are putting up a good battle against good spin bowling, it's a bit too early to be talking about a catastrophic Black Caps defeat yet.

But he's bowling first change! He's not being used as a peripheral 5th bowler. At least so far.

I'm naturally pessimistic too.

Just winning the toss in India is usually a little victory. England pissed away their winning start by playing daft cricket after India called for pitches with more turn.

When the pitches ended up being more like India pitches of old. I don't see you guys making the same mistakes we did.
