Sundar and Akash's selection was more expected. But was still nervous about Sarfraz not getting the nod

It's a good lineup for the attack NZ have. Santner and Ajaz, left arm spinners so you need batsmen who are either lefties or good players of spin. Now there's 4 lefties in top 8 plus Sarfraz.

Henry out injured is disappointing but we probably needed to drop one of our pace bowlers for a spinner anyway.

Hope Sundar does well, potentially an excellent batsman though I'm not convinced he's all that with the ball. Really salty about Kuldeep being dropped again tbh, guy is one of the most unlucky players in the world the last few years. Absolute class record but gets binned as soon as he has one not-great game (even then he bowled pretty decently first game I thought) . Dude must've pissed some people off higher up to be treated like this consistently.

You might be able to question Southee's bowling ability at times but you can't question his durability, he just keeps on keeping on.

Yeah normally you would pick Henry ahead of Santner but if this pitch favours spin more than seam and batting first Santner could be more useful here.

Yeah I felt exactly the same about both players tbh. I think pretty highly as Washington as a batting all-rounder but he's been picked primarily for bowling here, and Kuldeep so often gets a really raw deal - I think he's actually better than Jadeja on bowling alone tbh, let alone Sundar.
