Road to India in Australia 2024-25

India fans must be rubbing their hands with joy during the current Shield games.

Smith moved back down the order from opener and made 3 & 0. Khawaja also made 0, while Marsh made 9 and didn't bowl, despite declaring beforehand he's ready to bowl lots before and during BGT.

Australia also need a new opener whereby out of the candidates a 19 year old in his 6th FC game made the most runs with 2 & 43, with Harris close behind with 16 & 26

Only bright spot is Carey's in a purple patch at the moment and made 42 & 123* after 90 & 111 in his last match
I guess you could add Starc's 6fer to the bright spots too. But there's not a lot else. I presume Cummins and Hazlewood will play a game before the First Test?

I'm thinking this should be the first test side.

1. Khawaja
2. Marsh
3. Labuschagne
4. Smith
5. Head
6. Inglis
7. Carey (+)
8. Starc
9. Cummins
10. Lyon
11. Hazlewood

Geoff Marsh has a month to teach his son how to become a Test opener 😉

Yeah I should have added Starc's 6fer. Cummins & Hazlewood are supposed to play the one-day Cup game vs Victoria on Friday. Then I believe the big 3 pacers will rotate through the whiteball games vs Pakistan to warm up for the BGT

Look I understand that he's been asked the question so this is as much the media creating the story as ragebait as anything else.

But it is very, very good ragebait.

Meh. They’re still getting in valuable game time in the right conditions and format.

I don't like the idea of picking Konstas, for well-canvassed reasons at this point. But if it's going to be a choice between him and Josh Inglis, as the latest media thought bubble will have it, I'll go for the bloke who at least bats top ****ing three for his state team. Not the counter-attacking keeper-batsman who bats 6.

I keep hearing and reading that Sarfaraz is good for home tracks but will be terrible overseas. How do they know that when I don't think he's ever played overseas?

The guy just scored a great 150 and with Gill back people were talking about dropping Sarafraz to keep Rahul. Then when they did drop Rahul instead, articles are saying this is only for home series and Rahul will play ahead of Sarfaraz in Australia.

Can anyone shed some light as I don't have a clue why it's already decided Sarafraz can't play away from home? I actually want him to go and blast a hundred in the first BGT Test in Perth 😆

Maybe its just the way he bats? He handles the length ball in the channel similar to root (by opening the face and running it down to third). Extra bounce in Australia makes that hard and we've seen root have issues with it in the past. Rahul also has a decent record in SA recently, think the Indian selectors are backing him to handle the bounce better?

Have you watched him bat?

Just his 150 in last Test. I guess I wasn't asking myself how well would he play those shots in Australia
I mean it should be pretty clear why a bloke scoring a large portion of his runs with little back cuts to third man might potentially struggle on bouncy pitches.
