Modern teams do tend tk favour the keeper who can bat. You could argue England are a bit insane maybe, but Saha was also dropped for Pant. They even dropped Jurel for Pant who actually seems to be a pretty good bat.

Also, are people still rating Pant from when he first came into the team? He’s a perfectly serviceable keeper these days - not going to win any keeping awards but he is a decent keeper.

England, Australia, South Africa have all made the same decisions. Even Bangladesh and Sri Lanka to an extent.

Lets be clear - the incremental value of a great field wicketkeeper is lower than 10 points of batting average.

There’s no role in cricket for today for a wicket keeper who is not a frontline batsman

Did you miss the part where I mentioned England? Other teams have done it too.
Let’s be clear - we’re talking about competent keepers. No one is picking someone genuinely **** who averages 40.

tbf I saw Bairstow be genuinely **** quite often
