Cook would have been dropped for both Crawley and Duckett. They would unironically take Gilbert Jessop ahead of Ken Barrington.

You keep saying modern teams but only referencing India, which I think helps explain the mindset of some of your younger posters.Modern teams do tend tk favour the keeper who can bat. You could argue England are a bit insane maybe, but Saha was also dropped for Pant. They even dropped Jurel for Pant who actually seems to be a pretty good bat.
Also, are people still rating Pant from when he first came into the team? He’s a perfectly serviceable keeper these days - not going to win any keeping awards but he is a decent keeper.
England, Australia, South Africa have all made the same decisions. Even Bangladesh and Sri Lanka to an extent. You keep saying modern teams but only referencing India, which I think helps explain the mindset of some of your younger posters.
this is a good thing btw. It shows cricket has developedYea someone like Knott probably wouldn’t get selected ahead of Pant or J Smith or De Kock today
Did you miss the part where I mentioned England? Other teams have done it too.You keep saying modern teams but only referencing India, which I think helps explain the mindset of some of your younger posters.
tbf I saw Bairstow be genuinely **** quite oftenDid you miss the part where I mentioned England? Other teams have done it too.
Let’s be clear - we’re talking about competent keepers. No one is picking someone genuinely **** who averages 40.
I did say England are a bit insane, Bairstow wasn’t even a good bat except for about 18 months. Foakes should have played moretbf I saw Bairstow be genuinely **** quite often
