He averaged 46. Among openers post WWII, I will keep Gavaskar, Boycott and Greenidge much ahead; and all of G Smith, Hayden, Sehwag, Lawry, Cook, Gooch and Morris on around equal footing to Simpson. His legbreaks were great and him being an ATG in the cordon as well is a big boost. That's why I am very much on line about this one. Will probably go with Simpson today, may switch to Statham tomorrow. But on the primary, Statham is ahead for me. He ranks higher among my bowler's list (38) than Simpson does for batting (56).
Ok, didn't realise you had Statham that far ahead. Understandable then.
