No, I don't do it for specific players. I have argued similar logic when we had a discussion on Rahul Dravid v Ken Barrington. We clearly just fundamentally disagree on how longevity should be conveyed for all players. And 13 years is not conveniently snipping careers because it's a significantly long career length for a seamer and also valid context that Anderson was good-very good overseas for an extremely long period of time while Jayawardene was poor outside the subcontinent throughout his career.
Yes it is lol. You’re conveniently snipping his worst years off both ends to support your argument.

The overseas figures brought forward were from the 2010-11 ashes to the end. 13-14 years is a significantly long career for a seamer, and Anderson did significantly more overseas than Jayawardene. I would regard someone who was good-very good overseas over an extremely long period of time much higher than someone who was almost exclusively a condition specialist throughout.

The point is that a 13 year "peak" is as long as most full careers ATG cricketers have. Completely fine to chop off bad periods to evaluate whether a player is better than his overall averages. Especially in cases like this where a player has an unusually long career imo.

Yeah, and in the Jayawardene case, it is significant that Anderson sustained very good overseas performances over such a long period of time whereas Mahela never really got better outside Asia. Incredibly rigid to seriously suggest they are comparable in alien conditions.

You can either give Anderson props for his longevity or you can dissect his career to remove the bad parts. You can’t argue both simulataneously lol

Loophole – Dissect the part where ECB messed with his action + give him credit for playing till 42 😉

14 years isn't a peak. It's a long career length. Consistent versatility over a very long period of time is something Jayawardene never had, and it is also relevant in comparison to other seamers who's entire career was a similar length to 14 years.

I figure we will never agree on this topic as I also rate Dravid over Barrington.

Dravid was on the same level as Ponting and Waugh. Anderson's longevity as a pacer is definitely a world changer.
Longevity doesn't an ATG make, quality over quantity.

And not even going to engage on the Dravid thing again.

Ponting, really?

No

Even the other two are highly questionable.

Don't know when this hyping up of Clouderson occured.
Ponting isn't better than Waugh and around equal to Dravid. So yeah really.

That's not very sound honestly. Quantity makes a **** ton of difference, especially considering bowlers are in general more important than batsmen and the latter having higher longevity is a big reason they get rated higher.
