*OFFICIAL* England in Pakistan 2024

Pakistan should make a raging Turner next game. Drop Abrar as he is a below average spinner.

Bring Sajid Khan the off spinner and Noman Ali. Mohammad Nawaz over Shaheen.

Tayyab Tahir and Kamran Ghulam in middle order. Both good players of spin by current Pakistani standards.
If anything that would make England's selections easier. No problem bringing back Stokes to not bowl much. Rely on Leach and Bashir bowl most of the overs and only need two specialist seamers.

Given Abrar has been / still is (delete as currently applicable) in hospital, I doubt he'll be first choice for the next test.

The thing is you can't rely on Bashir just yet, it would be in England's best interests to have atleast 3 seamers that can bowl between 15-25 overs an innings

I really feel for Bairstow. He could've genuinely had a chance of scoring 400 on these pitches. Him missing out on touring Pakistan for tests will remain a big what if for me

The really amazing thing about England's innings was I don't think they were particularly high-risk or ultra-aggeessive for most of it.

Brook & Root were fairly sedate in the last hour or so of Day 4 by current England standards; indeed Root was restricted in terms of aggressive running and shot-making because of cramp/exhaustion late on Day 3 & his Day 4 segment.

Quite amusing that after all his struggles batting there, because of Duckett's injury Root's highest Test score is now batting at 3.
For a long time, the run rate was below 5, it was only when the score became a ginormous one and Pakistan bowlers were shattered that the run rate cranked up

Whatever it takes!!!
These wickets are natural in Pakistan and they were never significantly different. Subtle differences here and there era by era but nothing drastic.

The difference is they used to have bowlers who were better than bowlers from other countries at taking the pitches out of the equation. Now these tracks no longer give them a home advantage.

And while I understand the animosity towards the pitches because they are dull and there's probably an element of "if we're going to lose can we at least see some interesting games" but I don't think any kind of track hands Pakistan a distinct advantage because it's not a strong bowling attack in any department. They are stuck.

An Asian team lacking decent spinners is a killer unless they have God-like fast bowlers. Pakistan is much harsher to spin than other Asian countries but with decent spinners they could at least play more of an attritional game and possibly bank on the 4th innings.
Its not just the pitches though. It matters when you play the games. Oct-Dec is early winter season and the overhead conditions play their part as well. If you play in Pak in Feb-Apr, the pitches would have a lot more wear and also with that being spring-summer season, much hotter sun baking the pitches. The way these pitches behave in Pak is actually not that different to the early season wickets we get in north and north-western India.

But pitches in north india swing and seam a lot here all we are seeing is national highways

Pakistan seam attack is in dire situation. There is no one in the country who can bowl 140+ consistently forget about reversing at 145k to blow away the opposition.
What they do have is decent spinners who have won them tests in BD (Sajid Khan) SL (Noman) and vs SA at home.
English spin attack is still weak compared to their pace attack.
Bashir is average & domestic giants like Kamran Ghulam and Tayyab Tahir should be enough.

I see no other strategy to compete otherwise.

Gimmicky spinners rarely work in long formats & Abrar never had any real mystery to work with.
Pakistan experts seem to be of the opinion that he never wanted to play long form cricket.
